Location: Buffalo Run, Tarpon Springs, FL
Price: $15.6 million to build
Square Feet: 26,000

The owners of this home are Bill and Nancy Baumgart. Bill was the owner of Transcontinental Title Co., until he sold it in April of 2006. They originally lived in a 19,000 square foot mansion in the Countryside section of Clearwater. I guess there wasn’t enough room anymore.(19,000 sq.ft is massive if you ask me or any other normal person). So, they hired builder Jerry Glaser of Glaser Custom Homes to build them their dream home. Their home is located in a highly exclusive enclave developed by former NBA star turned real estate entrepreneur, Matt Geiger. The home has 8 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms all spread out on close to 26,000 square feet of living space. The home took 3 years to build. It includes an amazing indoor 30 foot high cobblestone piazza lined with storefronts that include a working ice cream parlor and a 1930′s style home theater with gold leaf trim. The contractor who built the home theater also helped to build Oprah Winfrey’s home! The home also has a “lazy river” style swimming pool, a massive 5,000 square foot guest house, and a 6+ car garage. The owners gave the builder a full page ad in their daily newspaper saying thank you. The cost? $49,000!

This 39,450 square foot French inspired mega-mansion is still “on the boards” and has yet to be built. It was designed by Scholz Design. The mansion has a dining room, library, kitchen with breakfast room, family room, office, multiple galleries, 3 staircases, 1st floor master with massive walk-in closets, a total of 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, laundry room, huge guest quarters, and a 8-car garage. Now, this is where the fun really begins. The lower level has to be one of the coolest and tricked out one I have ever seen. (I would love to see it when built) Paul Parmar’s sports annex is the only other awesome entertainment spaces that comes to mind. This home’s lower level comes complete with multiple recreational spaces, an 18 seat home theater, multiple storage spaces, a wine cellar, huge game room, a gallery, two saunas, locker and changing rooms, an indoor pool with separate hot tub, a large workout room, a full size indoor basketball court, and a bowling alley.
Square Footage Breakdown

First Floor: 9,200 sq.ft
Second Floor: 4,930 sq.ft
Guest Quarters: 2,000 sq.ft
Garages: 3,000 sq.ft
Sports Area 1st and 2nd floors: 3,180 sq.ft
Lower Level Main: 7,000 sq.ft
Lower Level Sports Area: 10,140 sq.ft
= 39,450 sq.ft

John Sanfilippo's 27,000 square foot Illinois Mega-Mansion

I did a post on Jasper Sanfilippo’s Illinois house called “Place de la Musique” a couple of days ago and included aerial views of his son’s recently completed mega mansion down the street. I now found out that John Sanfilippo’s mansion was designed by Scholz Design, a leading custom home designer. The designer of the home named this model “Norwich Manor”.

The mansion has 27,000 square feet of living space (17,000 on first two floors, 10,000 basement). It has 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a two story rotunda, 3 staircases, a huge turret, an elevator, a two story solarium, a home office, playroom, two terraces, 2 kitchens, 35′ 2-story library, family room, great room, and a master bedroom with exercise room and 2 massive closets.

Here is the letter that John wrote to Scholz Design to thank them for designing his dream home:

Dear Cam,

I wanted to send both you and Jas a big THANK YOU a long time ago for doing such a great job in helping my wife and I design our new home and also in working closely with us when needed during the construction process. The end result is nothing short of spectacular. Yourself, Jas, Ben, and everyone else at Scholz who worked on our project really took a personal interest in making our experience with Scholz a delight and should be very proud to work for such a professional organization.

During the whole design process, the easy-to-work together environment along with Jas’s creativity, (and a little of our own) allowed us to really create a well thought out floor plan with many unique architectural elements and the ability to really add some great details into the design as construction moved forward. The speed with which we were able to send ideas back-and-forth and to revise the plans during this stage was really amazing.

The Permit process stage was especially memorable when you Fedex’ed the 405 pages of calculations in duplicate, (810 pages total) along with a few other revisions so I could drop them off at the village to satisfy their last minute requests. The level of detail on the plans was remarkable and I think impressed even our zoning officer. During the construction process, the various people we worked with at Scholz were always pleasant and professional and very timely in answering any questions or changes that we needed.

Cam, you especially have always been a pleasure to speak to and to work with. You always made sure to follow up on all of the things that needed attention. I especially liked the various ideas you would send our way to inspire us.

I hope that you and/or Jas can make it out to see us sometime and get a first-hand look at the finished product. I would love to take you or Jas on a tour. We are just absolutely thrilled to live in this home. Please feel free to call or E-mail me if you will be in town or if you have any other inspirational ideas you would like to share with us. Thank you all again.

Sincerely,
John
