A truly beautiful mansion – the view into the dome is stunning (see the pics in the listing). My only bitch-whine-moan-complaint is the location. Yes, Lexington Avenue is a very nice street – buried utilities, shaded sidewalks and greenbelts and so forth. In fact it’s far nicer than most of the streets we see in the horrible Hamptons. However (God how I hate that word), the utterly contemptible half-acre lot, so small and tight that a front view of this home unavoidably includes the goddam next-door nayber’s shack, is annoying. There’s no privacy, and so it’s hard to contemplate this magnificent mansion on its own without the inescapable sense that it’s just a small, relatively inconsequential part of a greater whole, no better or worse than any other on the street. Well, for almost 10 fucking million bucks, I would prefer my mansion to stand alone, on a proper site, where it would be the sole focus of attention and admiration. The Mona Lisa wasn’t painted as the second or third panel in a 4 panel comic strip, and a grand mansion should be accorded the same dignity.
