This Tudor style home feels very familiar and offers the same problem I seem to identify in homes of this style. It is so incredibly grand, with loads of potential, but the finishes are too dark and heavy. They close off the grander of the home and prohibit it from feeling welcoming. In order to make a big home feel cozy, one does not need to use darker furniture and finishes. Instead, I always propose a balance of textures and a thoughtful color scheme of creams, taupes, white, grays and a pop of color in the lighter end of the spectrum. If this is properly distributed and strategically placed, the home should still feel cozy, but not closed in or claustrophobic. Since my aesthetic is very much sophisticated, light and airy, I would re-stain all wood finishes to a lighter stain, and change the dreary scheme of the rooms to a softer, serene feel, yet cozy. Love the potential, nonetheless. Would be a great home for any family with the right renovations. | Interior Design Firm based in NYC serving clients nationwide
