This much publicized mega mansion, located at 172 Bliss Canyon Road in Bradbury, California, has finally sold for $24 million (on September 18th). It may seem like a lot, but it’s a heck of a discount from its initial listing price of $78.8 million.

The massive home was first listed back in February of 2012. It was then on and off the market for over 5 years with a different price tag each time. It’s most recent price was $29.995 million.

It was built by Donald G. Abbey, who is the CEO of The Abbey Company, and took an amazing 8 years to build.  It boasts over 47,000 square feet of living space with 7 bedrooms (2 master suites), oak paneled elevator, 10 bathrooms, 3-D theater, 2000 bottle wine cellar, poker lounge, subterranean firing range, 10-car garage, cross-shaped infinity edge swimming pool with spa, guest house, pool house, tennis court and a temperature-controlled trout pond.

This home probably shows that just because you can build and afford it.. doesn’t mean you should…to me it doesn’t matter how much money you have… smart building is way more attractive then being able to just go all out.. yes, some of the materials may be great “in touches” throughout the house but.. it’s a bit overboard.. and I don’t think the terrace structure of the grounds and the plain-ness in the landscapes warrants the price as well.. only a few homes in the world (and depending on their location) can maybe withstand this type of investment.. it isn’t going to happen in Bradbury California..dumb isn’t attractive; even for wealthy people..

Couldn’t possibly agree with you more, Austin. Psychotic amounts of money have never, never do or will be a guarantee of taste, class or brains and the history of this unbelievably overpriced gargantua is exhibit A (along with all the other unbelievably overpriced gargantua’s!). I wonder if the seller learned anything from having this ode to vulgarity and egomania on the market for FIVE years and overpricing it by 54.8 MILLION! I have infinitely more admiration, respect and trust for a billionaire who has an impeccably designed & decorated 2500 sq. Ft. Apartment or house that they actually fully use even infrequently than the same with an utterly obscene castle like this. Of course, though, I don’t think that there are ANY billionaires in the world today with that kind of brains & humility.
