I merely like it a whole bunch. To love it, I’d need those battlements to be more modest….especially the octagonal part!

Americans – for the love of God, stop trying to recreate middle age architecture! You never had middle ages and you just can’t do it; admit it and move on…

Why? We recreate everything else. Assorted and various revivals found in American residential architecture include Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Tudor, Norman, Mediterranean, Tuscan, Baroque, and a dozen more. Even a rare Mayan or two. Yes, we also re-invent our own historic Georgian, Colonial, Prairie, Floridian and Victorian styles, and (God help us) Log cabins. Anything ever done anywhere at any time is fair game, after all, we’re a nation of immigrants from all over, and all the traditions and histories they brought with them from everywhere in the solar system are all ours by default.

Why? Because you suck at it! 🙂

Seriously though, it might not be entirely your fault. Medieval architecture somehow seems particularly unsuited to our life style today, more so than Greek or Roman.

Do you know for a fact that the person who commissioned this domicile was American, and not an expatriate European?

I don’t but if it was an expat then their judgement is already suspect by definition 🙂
