    Is there even an elevation here? Where’s the front door? Is that it at the back of the carport? All that money and there isn’t even a discernable pattern to the layout. Just rooms attached to one another with no apparent beginning or end. Like a glass and steel amoeba, with no head, body, front or back. I’m looking for where those 44 millions went, and I can’t find more than 15 or 16 of them. So, I went to the listing looking for more pictures – there aren’t any more. But I did see that the folks that come up with the Zestimate could only find 13 million, so it’s not just me. (Zillow probably didn’t count in those luxury sportscars – I did.) Anyway, the listing brags about quality materials and bespoke craftsmanship, so I looked long and hard for that too. Nope. Lots of glass and marble flooring, all very nice, but no craftsmanship to be found. No artistic joinery or plasterwork. No domes, vaults or other complex architectural forms. No intricate marble or wood patterns in the flooring or ceilings, no stained glass windows, no mosaics, frescos or bas-reliefs. Just a lot of faux wood and stone veneers (like that fireplace), and plain-vanilla cabinetry (like that wet bar), and acres of painted drywall surfaces and ceilings planted thick with recessed lighting cans (like everywhere else). No mention even of a home office. Nothing really upscale like elevators, indoor pool, bowling alley, shooting range, or basketball court. Outside, no fully equipped loggia with an outdoor kitchen and bar for alfresco entertaining. Hmmm, somebody installed padded walls in the theater. Whoopee.
    All the surrounding homes are valued at a tiny fraction of this listing – not a good sign. Look at the street view – it shows this turkey under construction – nothing but sheets of particle board and 2x4s. The stucco you see now was not applied over solid stone or block. This thing was built on the cheap – very, very cheap.
    Fortunately for the future owner, it’s a stone-cold buyer’s market at this level, and an offer of a small fraction of the asking price might be seriously considered. make sure the seller throws in those cars.

      I’m not saying you’re wrong (I even agree with a couple of things you said here), but you have to keep in mind that minimalist architecture is purposely trying to be nonaesthetic (like all other contemporary/avant-garde art movements) and scarce.

        I’m fine with minimalist, non-aesthetic architecture if that’s what’s wanted. I understand the desire for the house to be a blank canvas for the decorator, and not speak for itself. No problem. My objection is to the phrase “European craftsmanship and bespoke details” in the listing, when it’s painfully apparent that little or nothing has been crafted or notably detailed. The listing also calls this mansion “exquisite” and even “sophisticated.” I find it as “sophisticated” as a blank sheet of plain white paper. But, to each his own. Enjoy.

          “Exquisite” and “sophisticated” are very subjective terms. “European craftsmanship” when talking about a typical californian villa is a bit of a stretch, I must admit.
