Despite an extremely toxic location (PRC), and despite a few nitpicks like too many low ceilings, I love this mansion. However, either there’s some secret thing very wrong with this estate, or there is an egregious misprint in the listing. It appears to have sold in December 2016, to a complete idiot with far more money than brains, for the unfathomable, incomprehensible sum of $149,000,000. Now, only 14 months later, it is on the market for $94,000,000 less – a 61+% discount? It’s listed for a ‘mere’ $55,000,000! What happened? Enquiring minds want to know. For what it’s worth, given the very low ceilings in most of the major rooms, the Zestimate of just over $8,000,000 is a far more realistic appraisal.

Are you sure you were looking at the same house? All I found so far is that it sold in 2012 to one Toshiaki Ogasawara for 19.4 mil…

Oh I see. But notice how other sales have sources listed next to them, but this one sale doesn’t? (and is repeated 3 times).
          Something is fishy here.

it appears this property was listed first with Gypsies, and then with used car salesmen, instead of realtors.

Incredible. The first $55 million home I’ve seen that actually looks to be worth $55 million

Even though this “house” is yet another gargantuan monster that will never really be fully and sincerely utilized even once and is entirely too formal for the majority of buyers in that microscopic-sized puddle of potential billionaire buyers, I actually think that it was finished beautifully and not pimped out too much like so many American mansions are. However, even just one more form of decoration would kill it. Nice.
