When I see a price of $57.5 million, I expect to be blown away by every square inch of the place. As I examine the pictures, I find nothing remarkable, see nothing impressive, or even notable. If this house was not on a laughably costly Malibu bluff, but just a house anywhere else, it would list for a million or two and inspire no interest here whatsoever. The asking price is about twelve times (!!!) the Zestimate, which I find unreasonably inflated as well. The Good Book says faith without works is dead. I say location without enough house is just as dead.

Well yes but the fact that you can easily pay more for the location than the actual bricks and mortar shouldn’t really come as a surprise to you by now.

All very true, no argument there, nevertheless, for $57.5 million, I fell I shouldn’t have to do a thing to the house beyond furnishing and decorating.

Well, that’s matter of personal taste – for me, I wouldn’t even do this much; it’s pretty much the way I’d want my home to be.

The fact that you talk about a Zestimate like its an accurate number that means anything further clarifies how stupid you are.

I never said the Zestimate was accurate, I just commented on its relationship to the asking price, and my criticism that the Zestimate was unreasonably inflated (please re-read my post) as well shows that I do NOT consider it accurate. If you have a problem with the accuracy or relevance of Zestimates, take it up with them – don’t shoot the messenger.
As for me being stupid, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know …

The house is nice enough but nothing ground breaking. It’s much nicer than the oddly proportioned victorian that was on the lot prior to this house. I actually am really interested in seeing the renovation of the Buff & Hensmen designed house next door at 33744 PCH. Wondering if it will be a flip or if the buyers who are renovating it are actually doing it for themselves.

The lot and tear down house sold for $10.7m in 2007. The price of these vacation home markets has really gotten out of hand— list prices of all these homes in Malibu & Miami Beach have gotten ridiculously high– that they are almost more expensive than the markets that feed them (LA & NYC) and really, only a couple of the homes ever seem to actually sell. If I was filthy rich, I’d have a really hard time justifying the value in purchasing these properties these days.

Wouldn’t pay 5.7 million for it.
