It’s actually a pretty nice house. It’s a little bit eccentric obviously, but there is nothing offensive or too distasteful about it. Maybe the renovation work could have been better… but it’s hard to say without any pictures of the oginal interior.

I’m almost always a fan of innovation and creativity, happy to see an architect think outside the box, and for that I like this effort. But it must be said the standard for octagonal mansions Is still the Longwood octagon in Natchez, Mississippi. Even though it is unfinished (thanks to the Civil War), and unlikely ever to be finished, the floor plan is sublime. As the Parthenon was duplicated in Nashville, and done very well indeed, perhaps an enlightened gazillionaire will see the potential in Longwood’s plan, commission an architect to update and modernize it for HVAC, utilities, and smart stuff, and build it!

It would be fun to live here for a week or two…….just don’t make me look at the exterior of the house.

Well… it is rather hideous, but if they will pay me $40,000 a month to stay there I suppose I could manage a month or two.
