The architecture is magnificent in size, scale and detail. There are some very special spaces inside – the café, the wine cellar, home office and billiards room are exemplary, and I especially like the combined kitchen-breakfast-family room. Despite the idiotic climate residents of the Northeast suffer with, it is nice that the design provides for extensive alfresco facilities. The listing has no pics of the living room, or makes mention of any special ‘great room.’ Nevertheless, I love this mansion.
Note: The “baroque ethic” in which man, as the jewel in the crown of creation, is exalted above nature, is properly demonstrated in the landscaping. The plantings around the building are bent, folded, spindled and mutilated to accent the architecture. Some heretical modern architects think that buildings should conform to the vagaries of the site, when it is nature that should be dominated and subdued.
