We’ve blogged about this massive newly built home a couple of times before and have just found a model that was built of it! The 30,000+ (38,000 rumored) square foot gated mega mansion is being built at the intersection of River and Norton Roads in Potomac, MD. It was designed by Chatelain Architects. It has been under construction for over 3 years now and is almost finished (or may be completely finished). The main house features a grand 2-story rotunda foyer with double staircase, formal reception rooms, library, home office, wine cellar, home theater, two 5-car garages and more. The grounds features a Japanese style tea house, swimming pool with gazebo and a 5,000 square foot guest house complete with 4 bedrooms and a 3-car garage.

hmm…very intriguing. I’d like to see the completed project as it seems to be quite nicely designed. I like the detailing and proportions. the materials seem expensive and proper to the style. who doesn’t love a highly formal and well done limestone mansion???

Not to be a smart arse, but since you asked: I hate a highly formal mansion. I think it is the epitome of financial arrogance and social insecurity. For the few that can live that way, it is hellacious. Using your toys to force accommodation or submission of others. No Thanks.
Deepest regrets. My plus one and I, shan’t be in attendance.

well I can’t really argue with that. But no matter- I still appreciate the style. I think it’s the symmetry that really gets me.

I’d totally have a scale model of my dream home built and display it in the library or office. Same colors and mini furnishings too.
