The estate of Bob Hope, the comic icon of midcentury film and television, is on the market for a whopping $50 million. The ultra modern home is located at the end of Southridge Drive in Palm Springs, CA. Designed in 1973 by the California Modernist architect John Lautner, the architecturally unique home features 23,366 square feet of living space with 6 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. It was built to resemble a volcano, with three visorlike arches and an undulating concrete roof, a hole at its center opening a courtyard to the sky.

I love this house. Both this and the Elrod House just down the street are two of my favorite Lautner designs (although there are several other really great houses on southridge Dr.). I’m hoping that interior pics go up in a listing sometime soon.
Incredible. What a country we live in where someone in a 50 Million dollar house looks out over a trailer park.
Hate to say it, but you’re absolutely RIGHT, Mak…….UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE. For that PSYCHOTIC price, you should be lookin’ at NOTHING other than other multi-million dollar estates, mountains and the like. I ADORE the house though……it is TRULY a STUNNING MASTERPIECE of modern design, engineering and overall beauty.
This house defiantly has the WOW factor! Despite the fact its very urban and futuristic, the earthy tones and natural curves blend it nicely with its surroundings. Wish there were some more interior shots.
That…House…ROCKS!
“Do you expect me to talk?”
“No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die.”
“Where are the sharks with laser beams? Is it too much to ask for some sharks with fricken laser beams on their heads?”
An incredibly home. That overhang looks like it could easily weigh 100 tons…amazing just how deep it is considering there are no beams holding it up.
I typically don’t like modern homes, but this one is awesome.
Jesus H. Corbett, this is an ugly house!
Love it!!
This place is awesome, not $50 million awesome, but awesome nonetheless.
