This newly built Contemporary Mediterranean style home is located at 3485 Mathers Avenue in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (situated on a hilltop). It features approximately 6,086 square feet of living space with a total of 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. The first floor feature an entry hall with staircase, large living/dining room area to your left that has French doors opening to the front porch, a home office, laundry room, modern gourmet kitchen with butler’s pantry, breakfast room, a half bathroom and a family room with glass doors leading to a huge covered patio with fire pit and BBQ area. Outside there is also a swimming pool and an attached full bath and half bath. The 2nd floor of this home features 3 guest suites and a sumptuous master suite with fireplace, drop-down projection screen, custom walk-in closet, white marble bathroom with huge shower and a private balcony. The lower level features a media room, gym with glass walls, a bedroom suite, storage and access to the garage. It is listed at $8,588,000.

I’m liking this take on a Contemporary Mediterranean. The inside sleek and yet feels cozy at the same time. I like the layout and the fact they made the dining/living area into one big room. The kitchen is superb with the stone accent wall and I like how they added a built-in wine rack in the dining room. The master suite is by far my favorite room and that bathroom is to-die-for. I like the concept of a double height patio with curtains, makes a great entertaining space.

After scanning these pictures quickly I had Kim Kardashian’s house in the back of my head. The interior is actually really nice and effective, the floorboards in the bedroom look a bit cheap though. The views are fantastic and there are some great outdoor living areas, but the exterior itself just looks a bit like a normal CA mansion with a contemporary twist.

It looks OK from the street, but I don’t like that the main entrance leads visitors into view of the pool and outdoor room (in spite of there being a remedial gate blocking access).

The interior could be very nice. There are some nice subtle details and it’s contemporary but classic at the same time. However, the current “decor” is so cold and sterile looking; it looks frigid in there. A contemporary but warmer interior would go a long way here.

The price isn’t bad for Vancouver, even if it isn’t waterfront.

Why have a house with a stark interior with hardly any details and then a neo-traditional exterior design. If you were truly rich wouldn’t you expect more than just a mediocre spec mansion?
