Here is a look at some conservatories and sunrooms I found on Houzz.com. A conservatory is a room having glass roof and walls (sometimes wood roofs), typically attached to a house on only one side, used as a greenhouse or a sunroom. Out of the 12 pictured above, which one do you like best?

WOW, I’m having a hard time choosing these are all kinda dreamy. You can tell alot of these belong to Georgian country manors or stately homes in Greenwich. My favorite by only a tiny bit is the fourth one, only because the dome shape is so unique.

I think a room that is mostly windows should show off a nice view. That’s why #1 had me literally lol’ing – a beautiful view of the driveway & garage?

LOL too! Plus really cheesy window treatments.

No. 3 doesn’t really qualify for this group, even though it’s a wonderful lounge. The ratio of window/wall is to low, probably only around 50%. I might choose #9, but it is very high end construction. Also 7 and 12 are pretty respectable. I agree with Jeff P. about siting, but I wouldn’t mind any of these being towed over and affixed to my dining room….

I am going to vote for 6,7, and 8. With 8 coming out the winner. These are all really nice but some of them just look like room additions and not really conservatories. I have always thought that a thoughtfully added conservatory added a lot of class and value to a home. One complaint is that these are all being used as sitting rooms. A true conservatory should be a cross between a green house, a botanical garden and a tea room. These should all be hot houses capable of growing exotic plants over the winter. Conservatories were developed in Britain to enable the great houses to have fresh flowers year round. These need to be geared more toward growing things than just well windowed additions. One conservatory I know of was known for having the largest cactus in Ireland, probably 40 feet across, still with room to have tea in the winter and enjoy the hot house effect.

I agree with what rob says about the rooms purpose. I prefer #10.
