This urban contemporary style home is located at 1837 N Winchester Avenue in Chicago, IL and is situated on a double lot. It features an open concept floor plan with floor to ceiling windows and exotic woods throughout. There are bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 2-story glass atrium, eat-in gourmet kitchen with custom cabinetry, living room that flows into the dining room, family room, finished lower level, large deck with flat yard and an attached 2.5 car garage with swimming pool and hot tub above; what a neat idea! It is listed at $3,995,000. This is a really nice contemporary home, something I’m not usually fond of. I absolutely love that kitchen and the open concept floor plan flows nicely without being too open. Put it on a larger plot of land and it would be even better!

The exterior certainly doesn’t seem to fit in with the surrounding houses at all. Not only is it twice as wide, it doesn’t have any of the character the other houses do. The interior is fine, but I’ve seen it a hundred times in Seattle alone. It’s not bad and looks comfortable enough, but it’s a very formulaic contemporary design.

This looks dingy inside and out. Reminds me of a public restroom. Kitchen ain’t bad.

The house is very eh, kinda overpriced. This is West Town ( Bucktown / Wicker Park ) construction… very basic contemporary style. This particular house is boring and bland. I would much rather have 1744 Cortland ( http://www.redfin.com/IL/Chicago/1744-W-Cortland-St-60622/home/39556954 ). Same size, better detail and the pool is in the courtyard where its private, not on the roof of the garage where everyone around you see you in your bathing suit everytime.

Very uninspiring and Chicago is too cold and sparse anyway to need a modern home. Like Ggggggggggggrrrrooowwwllleeerrr (did I spell that right?) says, this is a very uninspired modern, nothing interesting about it. The neighborhood is not that great and the reason the price is so high on this is because Illinois really slams you with a premium tax on real estate transactions. I do like the courtyard, but remember for seven months of the year it is going to be filled with snow.

$4 mil in Logan Square? Highly, highly doubt it.

I’m just not a fan of this style, but I can see the appeal. My question is – these contemporaries always look good photographed with nothing but the sleek modern furniture inside. I can’t see them looking anything but cluttered and ugly once *people* actually move in and start leaving their stuff all over the place. Yech.
