This place is located on a short street with 3 or 4 other homes of similar style and size, and I gotta say all of them are hideous. This one isn’t quite as visually offensive from outside as the others, but it’s still pretty gaudy and lacking in any kind of architectural style. What’s really annoying about this home is the “staff wing”, which is attached to the house but looks like it isn’t from a couple angles. It’s placement, necessitated by the small lot, is really awkward and makes for some ugly views out of certain windows in the main part of the home.

Inside there’s pretty much nothing redeeming. The whole place just feels so “look at me”, but is boring at the same time. The price seems roughly in line considering how much house you get, but the sheer size of the service quarters is odd on a house this size…I’d expect it more on a mega-mansion, which this clearly isn’t. Quite unappealing.

The one 2 houses to the right of this one is the most hideous…yuck! haha

This is obviously a mid-western, federal style, brick, meditteranean with moorish and southern influences. The interior is done in gaudy arab/french. I think this house will be perfect for a confused diplomat.

Why do people do this? What happened to good taste and common sense? I don’t know anymore. I just. Don’t. Know.

A very confused and terribly uncomfortable home.

The front facade had some potential. It didn’t live up to that potential, and all hope was lost when those stupid dormers were added. The garage and rear facades are just hideous and never stood a chance.

The interior should be considered a write-off. The best option is to gut it and start completely from scratch. Actually, there is a better option: buy a different house entirely.

I honestly think ditching those three dormers would yield a substantially more attractive facade. Getting rid of the fountain would certainly help too…If I followed this line of thought to its natural conclusion, I’d end up with a vacant lot.

Scale is a killer. The huge dormers make no sense. One can poke an eye out on the low placement of the column capitals. The silly swing door interrupting the garage doors. The choice of casement windows over double hung windows makes the facade so strange looking. They even have that very standard double bridal in the foyer. Just plain old bad.

I doubt this will meet with very much interest, but here’s the website for the builder, M&A homes. They have quite a few homes sprinkled around Great Falls & McLean. The site has floor plans as well. (does the house on the homepage look familiar? 😉 )

The home two doors down from our subject home is especially dumb…I have no idea what the point is with the combination of front & side-load garages.

“Stately” home on dinky lots. If you are going to build a house like this PLEASE put it on a size appropriate lot.

Oh wow. I love it. Except for the foyer and hideous staircase, and the lot is too tiny for that size house. But otherwise, for the most part I loved it. I thought it had character. Guess I’m in the minority here.
