Prince Bandar bin Sultan’s 95-acre Aspen, Colorado estate, dubbed Hala Ranch, has sold for $49,000,000. The sale included the main house for $41 million and a second parcel with guest house for $8 million. The main house was designed by the architectural firm of Hagman Yaw and built by Hansen Construction in 1991. It features approximately 56,000 square feet of living space with 15 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. The estate was first put on the market back in 2006 for $135 million, but was taken off 16 months later.

I have always really really wanted to tour this mega-home. I LOVE the fact that the entire driveway is heated, and melt’s the snow as it falls. The home also has a garage that can give oil changes, and even it’s own gas pump.

    DAMN!!

$49 million actually seems low considering the location and great amenities.

Looks like a 5 star resort lodge but the design appears to be well integrated into the surrounding wilderness as much as a 56,000 sq ft of home can easily fit in anywhere. The materials and architecture look very good. Just wonder what it might cost to heat the place during peak ski season from December to Febraury?

This is an amazing compound. ONe thing I remember about it is that it has its own gas station. It is sort of broken up into different main areas to acommodate his large family. At one time this was listed as the most expensive home in the world. I think the price is reasonable.

    $135M initial asking…. arrogance.

Wow, a heated driveway? I like that idea. It seems to be a nice house.

I’ve always loved this house, but the original asking price was nothing more than a joke (proven by the final sale price). The interiors are beautiful and it definitely makes for a nice mountain resort. A lot of people seem mighty impressed by the heated driveway: that’s a VERY common feature in mountain towns, and you’ll find them on a lot of houses, including those for under $1,000,000. In addition to heated driveways, heated outdoor terraces are common (and those are really nice).

Search the Google for “Hala Ranch” and you’ll find some interior pics.

It doesn’t look like it’s 56,000 square feet. Does that measure include a basement?

I love the fact that it was bought by the guy who made billions shorting the hell out of the mortgage market.

I wonder if his ego got so big he needed a place this large just so he could take it on vacation with him.
