It is located off of Paces Ferry Road NW and boasts a 30,000+ square foot mega mansion, a motor court with fountain, huge infinity edge swimming pool, 3 levels of manicured lawns, formal gardens, 3-story guest house and even a landing strip (plane runway)!!! Uhm….I don’t like it.

I think the house was built according to Tyler Perry’s preference, not yours. So, when you get a house, you can have it built the way you want it!

Looks nice but I don’t know of any plane that only needs 200 feet to land.

Mr. Perry is an avid RC Plane enthusiast and therefore enjoys having the runway at his house.

I thought Perry was building on the site of Dean Gardens but this doesn’t appear to be that property, at least not where the gardens and house were. As Daniel implies, that can’t be a landing strip, but I have no clue what it is. Certainly not a heliport, which would at least make sense. The house is reminiscent of The Manor, but not even as well done. Still an impressive complex, if not architecturally.

Impressive for sure, but not really that tasteful. And that’s not a landing strip. Maybe a mock landing strip, but not a real one.

Why would any single person need that much? And I agree, what does he need a a landing strip for?

I know that location very well … That neighborhood would never even allow a helicopter pad (and the related noise) on a residential property …

that can’t be a functional runway

    1) I’m sure there are plenty of zoning laws preventing planes from landing in a residential area
    2) way too short
    3) surrounded by tall trees
    4) theres no actual plane or a hangar there so what does he use the runway for? so other people can fly straight to his house?

I have no idea why somebody would make a fake runway other than just to tell people you have your own airport… hes better off telling people its a dragstrip (and its still pretty short for a dragstrip that should be a 1/4 mile)

also whats under the tennis court… a parking garage?

Yup, looks like a parking garage! So cool! 🙂

Good call! I’m curious as well what’s under that tennis court! 🙂

If it is a garage, how do you get there? I see the road that drives around the perimeter. Kind of a weird layout if you ask me…

Might make sense if he’s got one or two dozen cars that may not get regular use…nice big storage area tucked away from sight.

I’m not sure that makes sense in my head. You would probably want the structure to enclosed for security and weather-proofing if that was the case. In retrospect… It could be a valet-type garage for all his guests. I dunno. Maybe I’m just trying to justify it…

I just assumed that what we’re seeing is the initial entry and that it is fully enclosed. Just speculation, of course.

The run way is way to short to land or take off. What is it actually for???? Not to mention way to close to the house. There is no way its in use

  • Grrrowler

It’s predictable, so it doesn’t disappoint on that front. From the outside there doesn’t seem to be anything special about the house, and for me size doesn’t equal special. The “runway” looks like it could be some sort of go-kart drag race track. That doesn’t sound any more useful than a 200 foot-long runway.

I’m wondering if the “landing strip” it’s something unique, which is why no one can ID it. I’m thinking it could be a drag strip for RC cars. I never heard of anything like this, and it sounds stupid, but that’s my guess.

What’s with the huge pit in the roof?

  • marc22

That deep pit in the roof is an awkward solution to hide a row of HVAC units. The overall architecture is fair at best once again proving that money alone doesnt buy you a quality residence. It’s just big. That’s the best compliment I could come up with. Big.

The runway is actually nearly a mile long, and the home is the size of a large shopping mall.

I believe it is a runway for RC planes. If you google Tyler perry and RC planes there are some articles about him flying RC planes

Ahh, now that makes sense. There’s still quite a bit of tall trees around though, and usually a serious RC plane pilot takes his toys to a big field to get the most out of them, but that seems the most likely theory.

The ‘landing/drag strip’ is just a road leading to the front of the guest house. He might enjoy testing his car’s acceleration or something, but is probably just a cool idea he came up with instead of a plain road.

Never a functional landing strip, due to its lack of length, proximity to trees/structures, and the fact that it lies in a residential area. Health and safety would have been all over this when the building plans were submitted.

Overall its a rather cool idea in my book.

I thought RC planes too, why not? I don’t like how the gardens stray at an angle from the house. If you are going to do symmetrical gardens they should probably align with the house? Otherwise looks pretty nice. I prefer modern myself.

How about an update on Dean Gardens?

As I was reading the comments, I was thinking RC planes as well. If there are articles with him flying RC planes, I think this is just about confirmed. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m moving on. Pretty neat amenity, really. If you’re into RC planes that is. I think a little mini-control tower or a mini-hangar would have been even better.

I gotta hand it to Tyler Perry. I’m not a fan of the guy himself. I think his comedy sucks so bad that I can’t even stand to look at his face. But he has built a dream house here. Maybe it’s not our dream but he stepped out of the norm and created something completely catered to his wants and needs. I’m sure there are some pretty fun amenities on the inside too. I guess my one complaint is that it’s WAY too over-the-top like a Hadid house. I mean… do we really need 3 massive gardens? Do we really need 30,000 (plus) sq ft? He obviously has quite the imagination and I think he could have created something really special. Instead he sold out and went with a silly, impractical monstrocity. I now see Tyler Perry in a different light and I think I dislike him even more.

What has Tyler Perry done to you? Is it because he’s an African American man who is successful at what he does? I enjoy his comedies, and you must like Tyler Perry enough to be on here looking up and at his home. Keep the negative energy to yourself because I’m pretty sure everyone on here doesn’t want to hear it, including myself! Please NOTE: THIS IS TYLER PERRY HOUSE!!!!! IT WAS BUILT ACCORDING TO HIS PREFERENCES, AND NOT YOURS!!!!!!

To Bri – Ok, small minded one. Why don’t you try reading the guys post. He said he doesn’t care for the guys comedy and didn’t say anything negative about Perry. Ignorant trash. With an attitude like yours, I’m sure this is the closest you’ll ever get to a mansion.

        Ugh. Go away.

Are you guys sure it’s a garage under the tennis court? Could it be an home office/production co. ofices/studio? There seems to be a seperate road to it from the min entrance.

I think the landing strip might be for RC planes or something, like the larger remote control planes that are like 3 ft long. It obviously can’t be for real planes and I doesn’t look like a race track.

The runway is for his remote controlled airplanes, that’s all. Plenty of people have stuff like that. Take a ride in a Cessna and you’ll see that’s more common than you think.

I’m sure it for his remote control airplane , small electric and the neighbors would not hear it , that would be plenty of room , I think he also has larger RC airplanes that he flies at a local RC field , from what I have heard in the Hobby , he is a great guy and loves the hobby , he can go to the field and nobody would care about what he does for a living or how much money he does or does not have .

The landing strip is for powered paragliding. It is the right size. It is an interesting and fun sports hobby. Nice house. Had I had the money, I would probably build one similar. In Danville, VA though. on 40 acres of land with a pond where I can do some fishing. And Oh, I love powered paragliding. So I would have my very own landing strip. I do trike and foot launch powered paragliding.

Why is everyone so hype because he has landing strip ? He went through hell growing up and this house is a blessing from God. He deserves it so stop hating that ya’ll don’t have a house like that !!
