Seems like a lot of money for an 84 year old house in Il.

Looks like something I would see in Lord of The Rings or Harry Potter…Alice in Wonderland maybe?

Funny, that’s exactly what I first thought as well. Exterior looks as if it could be right off the set of one of those movies…I dunno, maybe that was their intention?

I like it. It looks like something Hansel & Gretel would live in. The exterior is unique. The interior could use some updating and some spaces look exceptionally low and/or small, but this would be perfect for anyone 6-feet and under. That sunroom looks especially nice, minis the undoubtedly fake ivy.

It’s eccentric in a tasteful way, and I like it. It looks more like a folly than a house but I like the quirkiness. The grounds and the view look lovely. The interior would benefit from a fresher decor, but the rooms sizes seem to be very good. Combining the existing details with a more updated interior would make it very nice.

LOVE the exterior! Very unique and charming! Like those above, the interior could use a restrained, delicate freshening but it’s not terrible as-is. I wish we had some higher quality photos!

Been inside of this house. It is beautiful and is one of the few large parcels of lakefront property left in Winnetka. The tilework in the masterbath is original and very ornate. The subterranian garage was an engineering marvel. The house is locally famous (voted one of the best houses in Chicagoland years ago by Chicago Magazine) I drive by it everyday and wish it were mine.

How is it an engineering marvel? Something special? I love subterranean garages.

I too would like to know about this garage. From the birds eye view, it may take up the entire motorcourt. Love the entrance to this lot in general. From the street view, you can see one large tree in lieu of a gate/wall to block view of passing cars and pedestrians. The ramp to the garage is then centered on the lot, behind the tree. Really cool.

I wish there were pictures of the ramp and garage area…

I shouldn’t like this but I really do. It looks like it’s straight out of a fairy tale, but it works. I love the exterior, it’s so completely different from most of what we see. Inside is very handsome and I love the historic details. It’s nice that it’s been updated in places that count (like the kitchen) but it’s retained so much of the old feel. The lot looks great too, plenty of space and wonderful lake views.
