Homes of the Rich reader Jarrett has created a French Country (with the stone and stucco) style mansion using Google Sketchup. He also added somewhat of a Tudor influence with the half-timbered wood details on some of the peaks and front facades. It was designed to fit on a specific 2 acre lot in his favorite neighborhood and is an impressive 281 feet long. What do you guys think?

First of all I admire his skill with using Google Sketchup I had never heard of it until this article and I tried it and had no clue what I was doing. Lol.

That being said I’m not a fan of the actual home. There are some windowless walls and it looks like a big ranch home unless he acutally wanted it to be something like a 1.5 story. And there’s only one fireplace? Aahww, :(. I want one in me bedroom.

Just because there’s only one chimney doesn’t mean there aren’t more fireplaces inside. I agree that bumping up certain sections to a full second floor would help it look less like a rancher/prairie style home. Not that it’s bad the way it is… maybe you were going for that look? I would take anything left of the entry and make a full second story on top of it. The rest can stay the same. What kind of square footage are we talking here? My best guess is 17,000.

I have no clue what Google Sketchup is, but this obviously took some time and thought! I really like the overall layout and the garage area. Good job!!

Now excuse me while I go check out this Google Sketchup business. 😉

I’ve messed around a little with sketchup, and I can say it definitely takes some skill to master, and I respect those who can create what Jarrett did with it.

The home doesn’t look too bad. I’m curious as to whether there are floor plans that he created to go with it or if it’s just a design exercise of just an exterior. It’s a little wide for my taste, and it does have a rancher feel to it, which could be awkward in a home of this size, but all in all it’s a neat project and is pretty cool.
