This gorgeous Villa style mansion was lived in by Williams-Sonoma CEO Howard Lester before his death in 2010. It is located at 545 S Mapleton Drive, right across from “The Manor” estate. It was featured in Architectural Digest in 2006. The home offers 18,000 square feet of living space with amenities such as a home theater, billiards room, library, rose gardens, swimming pool and more.

Except for the paintings in the (living?) room. Everything about the interior decorating just says..safe..inoffensive..

Minor correction — Howard Lester died in 2010, so perhaps the home is still owned by his widow. (Beautiful home, but why do rich people always seem to live so “beige” …?)

I must disagree about the paintings. Based on their context, they look like beautiful mid-century abstract expressionist originals, possibly Robert Motherwell or Franz Kline. I found the decor safe yet exquisitely tasteful, down to the caliber of the art.

However, due to this being the home of the CEO of Williams Sonoma, I must say that I am extremely disappointed we did not get to peek through the kitchen!

It is a nice home, but as mentioned, it really needs something other than beige. The furnishings are tasteful and the architecture looks very nice. My only real issue with the home is the master bedroom which looks odd to me – can’t really put my finger on it, but I think it may be the arched ceilings and the relatively large expanse of bare walls. The art may be done by a master, but it looks like one of those paintings where you give an elephant or baboon a paintbrush and let them go at it.

Mr. Lester was an inspiration to all who worked for him at W-S over the years. BTW, it’s “Williams-Sonoma”, not William Sonoma. But this is a lovely, lovely home. But, I agree, where is the kitchen shot?

I actually kind of like it. Sure it’s a little boring, but it’s very comfortable!

I would say tranquil and tastefully understated rather than boring. I like the decor with the art. Maybe the kitchen is devoid of W& S products!

The exterior is sublime and the grounds look truly beautiful. The interior is also lovely, but as has been said so many times already, it’s just too beige. The art work is clearly the focus, and the beige background does help highlight it, but it’st still just too beige. It looks somewhat cozy (as much as an 18,000 square foot house can be cozy), but the beige is almost oppressive.
