    The price is a joke.

I went to high school in Winnetka and grew up in Kenilworth which is a smaller town just south of Winnetka. This is in the best location on the North Shore but no one will pay anything near $10million. People in Illinois don’t usually fuck with this type of nonsense.

Hmm. It’s “nice”, but not $16 million in Winnetka nice. It seems like a nice area, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that the price is very optimistic. The architecture of the home is far from ground-breaking. Pleasant, but we’ve seen it hundreds of times before.

Winnetka lakefront propery is one of the most desirable addresses in Chicagoland. New Trier is one of the top high schools in the nation and low crime accounts for high property taxes and desirability. It is about 30 minutes from Chicago. Still, it will never get more than half of the asking price. A much, much bigger french mansion is being built a block from this place-they even cut into the lake bluff to get more beach.

I actively dislike this place. OK, the front facade isn’t bad but I’m not fond of the offset entrance. The interior is a mess. The only consistent theme throughout is the use of bad window treatments in many rooms.

I like the generous use of wood paneling and the sunroom is beautiful. No room is without window treatments – even the laundry. But like others said, its nice, but not $16M nice.

For once I actually disagree with Grrrowler. No this place isn’t perfect, but I love the use of wood throughout. I only have small complaints, most of which have to do with the furnishings/decor. That and the rooms don’t seem well-proportioned. There are too many large, blank areas that furiture can’t fill. Does it break new ground? Not really… but for the most part it’s comfortable.

Really? The Schweppe Estate is $5 million less than this piece of garbage.

+100 on all comments on this being overpriced. The economy in the Greater Chicagoland area is collapsing and with businesses steadily moving for greener pastures, properties are worth less and less. There are very nice houses in the area but none of the bid budget ones that have actually sold have sold for any decent price. Count on this one selling for between a third and half the asking price – my guess is that it would be nearer to a third what the sellers want.

The major selling point for this house is its lakefront location. But the photos show little of the exterior, its property(1.5 acres) or lakeviews. The house is situated very close to other mansions.

Listing provides two pictures of the back yard with pool. I believe that this is the home built by Heritage Builders for its owners. Heritage Builders has built a ton of mansions in the North Shore. Any house worthy of tear down they buy it and put up a place 3X the size.

To all the haters it sold for 12.7 mil so I guess your wrong that no one would buy it. I love the look of this house and its on one of the best pieces of land with the most sand you can get in Winnetka so not a lot to complain about.

The Schweppe Estate is awesome as well but its in lake forest not Winnetka. I rather not live in the boonies up there.
