This newly listed Neoclassical gated mansion is located at 6601 Hunters Glen Road in the Volks Estate neighborhood of University Park, TX. It was built in 1927 and is situated on 1.8 spectacularly landscaped acres. It features a traditional exterior and a gorgeous contemporary interior. It boasts 12,957 square feet of living space with 4 bedrooms, 6 full and 3 half bathrooms, formal living and dining rooms, 2-story great room, black wood paneled library/billiards room, gourmet kitchen, family room, 10 wood-burning fireplaces, 3-car garage and much more. The amazing grounds offer private gardens and courtyards, swimming pool, two-story cabana with kitchen, in-ground trampoline, fire pit, putting green and a tennis court with a covered viewing terrace. It is listed at $22,500,000. Wow, I really like this home! The interior is stylish and sleek, but the price is a bit steep.

If someone has millions of dollars to spend and wants a modern house, why, oh why, would he/she buy a classic mansion built in 1927 and try to make it contemporary? The exterior is somewhat severe, but I like it. The interior is a little too nightclub-like for me, but I like that it’s stylish and not the usual Rooms To Go interior we see. However, putting this interior into this exterior is like dressing up a young Katharine Hepburn in an Alexander McQueen gown; both are beautiful and interesting, but they don’t work together.

well this house didn’t start out as a white, stucco clad home. from 1927 to about two years ago it was a traditional red brick Georgian house. so the entire thing- inside and out- was given a contemporary makeover. personally, I love the mix of styles and think it works really well. it’s directly across the street from billionaire Gerald Ford’s amazing house and 5 acre estate featured currently on Veranda’s cover.

It’s actually interesting to hear how different the exterior was until recently. It makes me more sad that the exterior was also seriously altered to make it more modern.

Kenny, you need to get out to Mendham and snap some pics of Whitney Houstons forlorn mansion for everyone.

I like it. The inside and outside are a bit on the somber side, but a couple color changes and this could be great. The price is incredibly inflated.

It’s definitely sleek, but I’m with Grrrowler on this one…I just can’t look at the interior of this place without thinking about how big a shame it is to erase the history of an existing ’20s manor just because you want a contemporary look.

This is what happens when my wife and I used to play The Sims together. I would design her a beautiful house with a stately exterior and then she would fill it with mismatched, over the top, contemporary furnishings. Yuck.

Such a waste… There is very little about this house that I can appreciate.

Agree with the above posts re imposing modern upon vintage. But the kitchen is beautiful and really flows well into the dining/family room area.

Does anyone know who used to live here – what they do, why they’re selling, etc? Just curious.
