I’ve featured quite a few Australian homes on here and most of them have received negative comments. However, I think this one might be more favorable. This beautiful Mediterranean estate is dubbed Villa Del Mare and is located in New South Wales, Australia. It was built and decorated by renowned builder and designer Chris Norris and took more than 2 years to complete. One great feature of this estate is that it boasts amazing views of the Sydney Harbour and the city skyline. The 20,000+ square foot mansion offers 5 en-suite bedrooms, a grand double staircase, lower level apartment, formal living and dining rooms, pub room, gourmet kitchen, office, gym, wine cellar and more. The grounds include wisteria-covered dining terraces, manicured lawns, formal gardens and an infinity edge swimming pool. The asking price is available upon request.

One of these days I will like an Australian home featured on here in its entirety. Today is not that day.

The exterior (from what is shown), is not bad but yet again, has its odd parts. The rear of the home looks like a something from California in the 1990s. The view is also great. But is photo 2? Is that the main entrance on the right hand side. And what an inconvenience it must be to back out of the carport. The interior is the typical Australian mess. Terrible room sizes, ugly color choices, feeble attempts at interior design, etc. The living room (photo 4) is puny. The dining room is too big.

Let me guess, this is priced at $30 million or more….

Oh goody…another Australian house. They’re always so entertaining.

I actually don’t mind the exterior of this one. There are some interesting elements, although as Daniel pointed out, backing out of that carport could be a real challenge.

The interior is the abomination I’ve come to expect from multi-million dollar Australian houses.

As with almost every Australian mansion posted here – great view – ugly house.

I must agree with all previous posters, and will just note the horrific vents in the living room and dining room ceilings. The ceilings were bad enough but the vents make them look institutional. Did they run out of money when they reached the ceilings or did they think no one would notice? On the plus side, I think there’s enough room (barely) to back out of the carports, given the occasional ding here and there.

It’s an odd detail to notice, but I’ve seen ugly vents in other Australian homes on this site as well…it’s strange.

How could you spend this much money on a house and then hire Stevie Wonder to decorate it?

Even Stevie Wonder can tell the interior is hideous…he can just…*sense* it walking through the door.

Seriously, if I walked in and saw that couch in photo #4 I would walk right out, get in the car and leave.
Russians are gaudy, but there stuff is expensive and new, this is just…and who picked the color of the tile in the foyer? That could have been a nice black and white checkerboard or something, anything but that nasty brown.

Backing out of those garages must be fun.

Well, Kenny, I appreciate the effort to find a good Australian home for us to see. The problem is not your searching skills but rather the lack of pleasing upscale homes down under. This IS, however, a step in the right direction. I, and others apparently, quite like the exterior, and the views are fantastic. The interior is just a damned mess. Keep looking though! There MUST be one out there somewhere!

I hold the belief that there are in fact nice houses here, they just aren’t on the market for very long for obvious reasons!

    I like this one
    http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-terrigal-108033316

It’s about an hour’s north of sydney and about 2 minutes from where I live. Before the E.O.I price was put up it had offers over $6,750,000

That is a nice house. Love the location and the way the pool is perched on the cliff. The decorating needs work but this is a much nicer house than any of the other Australian houses Kenny has posted.

To whom it may concern, I sent Kenny a list of some 10+ tasteful Australian homes about a month ago, but he hasn’t seem to have posted any (annoying, as it takes me some time to find them). The exterior of this home is nice, but the interior definitely needs amends. I’m not sure why people are knocking the car-parking area. What would be the problem in doing a 90-degree reverse, and then driving out at another 90-degree angle? It doesn’t seem overly difficult at all…

Kenny hates Australia and is trying to turn everyone against them.

Please remember Australians have a very different taste to the rest of the world, what may seem ugly to the folk on here who are used to the ridiculously large McMansions that america offers, i could almost guarantee most australians scoff at the style of the standard ‘opulent’ american home.

Then again, this is just a blog and everyone has their opinion. If you are going to post Australian homes on here, at least find the decent ones!

    Say for example:
    http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-broadbeach+waters-107260231

    http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-southport-107536413

    http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-mermaid+beach-108145596

And the best thing is comparatively their prices are cheaper and havent lost as much value as high end american properties!

As an Australian I agree with you but wish to stress that no matter your geographic location that lounge in picture 4 is universally ugly!

the owner of this house is Julia Ross of Julia Ross recruitment…There is a billiard table that comes out from the floor in one of the other rooms.

Its on wolseley road point piper non waterfront. one of the top 10 most expensive streets in the world.

this house is nicer, made of better quality materials then the majority of those vile homes that are usually on this site. however it is a generalisation to say all aussie homes are aweful considering
