Bleh. Talk about bringing back the 80s. Jeez. Only room I like is that rooftop area. Garage is nice and cavernous too.

What a strange house. I can’t say I like anything about it. The pool area isn’t bad, but I’ve seen much better. Unlike Daniel, I can’t stand the rooftop area. It looks like a physical therapy office, complete with stainless door elevator. The rest is just…well, strange.

Yuck, what were they trying for? A cross between Scarface, a conference center, and a low rent mall? This is really bad. The land sucks as well.

I think it has very impressive curb appeal but the photography doesn’t do it much justice to showcase this house…weird camera angles make for a distorted view of some of these rooms. I’m not exactly sure what that room with the glass ceiling is supposed to be used for but it does seem like a waste of space except for a college kid wanting some privacy…hot tub is a nice touch…
The outdoor area with the pool , kitchen, covered dinging area are also impressive. The double staircase…naw…don’t care for it…I thought the whole reason they burned down the Tara plantation in Gone with the Wilnd is because of that stairway…

This is a strange house indeed. There are a ton of design features here that I really don’t like…the rooftop area looks cold and ugly inside, and the whole exterior of the home is a mess and is made worse by the office building windows of that top level. I also don’t like how the staircase splits in two twice; one or the other might be okay in isolation, but it’s too busy as-is, and the foyer as a whole is too office building-like. I’m not a fan of the kitchen either.

    No thanks

To those who critique this house, you need to know the area. I live in Brisbane, and I know that this house is entirely appropriate in the suburb of Stretton, where big is not quite big enough, and biggest is king. This one is the biggest of the lot (or close to it), and locals will be envious. It should attract interest, but I’m not sure if they can negotiate a sufficiently mega-high price …

I would argue that you don’t need to know the area at all. The lack of cohesion where style is concerned on the inside and the jarring combination of disparate architectural styles on the exterior are very off-putting for a lot of people, myself included. If this home is “appropriate” when compared with other homes in the same general area, then all that means is that there are several homes in the area that many people would turn their noses up at, instead of just this one. I’m not putting down Australia or the aesthetic taste of the people therein, it’s just that this home is not attractive to me….it’s not really relevant what the area is like when we “critique” a single home in isolation.

This home was not designed by an architect. I know for a fact this house was designed and built by Sam Savvas, a businessman for his and his family’s enjoyment. I know the house well and have always been in awe. It is one a kind and was built well. I agree with Darryl’s comments about Stretton. It is quite possibly one of the largest houses in Queensland. This isn’t Hollywood but little old Brisbane that we are talking about and for it’s size and position it is amazing.
