This palace is rumored to have been commissioned for Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. A Russian version of WikiLeaks posted photographs of the huge mansion claiming that it belonged to Putin. They said it is still under construction and is being built for a reported $1 billion, which I find VERY hard to believe. $1 billion?! This is truly a display of power and ego. To me, the home is vulgar and ostentatious, nothing specatcular. Care to voice your opinion, guys? By the way, is that Putin in the pictures? HAHA

HOMES OF THE RICH POPULAR TOPICS

Eh. I like the exterior, though I don’t know why the painted stucco elements had to be grey (Maybe it’s just primer?). The inside looks surprisingly restrained…for a Russian ‘home’. The murals look terrible. I actually like some of the furnishings, but all together in one abode with the gold gilt detailing makes it overpowering. I’d steal that goose bowl.

Overall, I don’t see a billion dollars. Maybe you could get a billion if all the furnishings were true antiques and all the art was my true artists, but otherwise, we have seen many homes on this site that equal or even exceed the opulence in this place.

    $1 billion???????

    No way…

    Maybe 1 billion Russian Rubles…

The exterior seems to me very beautiful.Very unique official residence for one of the most powerful politics in the world.

The outside, is OK, from some angles. The view from the front of the house includes that lovely antenna tower. There’s also supposedly a tunnel that leads to the bottom of the cliff to the beach.

I doubt there is US$1 billion in the house itself. I just don’t see $200 million a year no matter how big or elaborate the house is. Reading a little more about this, it seems that the house may have cost as much as is reported because of corruption and misuse of public money: http://corruptionfreerussia.com/ (I don’t know how legitimate that letter is, even though the Washington Post used it as a source).

Ugh. Whats with the neighbors little house just behind the hedge on the right side( looking from the house). Talk about building the most expensive house in the neighborhood! Whats with the electric transmission poles as well. Couldn’t they at least have buried them? Then there’s the antenna tower that you mention. Classy views.

As for the house itself…big, cold, trying to be something that its not. Those “murals” look like big decals. This place is trying to look like a palace built in the 1700’s and it’s just a big fake reproduction.

      Sad. Pathetic.

Is this his private residence? If so, this is a disgusting display of wealth in a country that can’t afford it (literally AND figuratively).

While I have visited Russia just once, I talked to a friend who has worked there and knows the country well. This is most likely NOT a house that belongs to Vladimir Putin or anyone else in the Russian government. You have to remember that there are some extremely wealthy people in Russia these days and any one of them could have commissioned the house. My friend thinks that the $ 1 billion figure is as much a joke as the idea that Putin owns this home. The design is traditional Russian and while it may not be to everyone’s liking, there are many old homes from the Tsarist period which are now museums and are very like this one.

I’ll leave it to my friend to comment here if he wants to, but I am sure that I got his views right.

Why could it not belong to Putin?
Last time I checked he was a multi-billionaire.

Simple – if it really was Putin’s property, he is tough enough to live there without bothering about any criticism. And, if it was Putin’s property, whoever took these pics would have ended up in a queue at the gates of heaven. An unguarded home that is under construction (with the possibility that someone might put a bomb or whatever weapons people use) into a wall or under a floor where it could be detonated at a later stage is not going to belong to one of the most heavily guarded men on earth.

I did not know that you were so well versed in the ins and outs of ultra rich politicians and their security and how their minds work. How can you make absolute statements about Putin? Do you know him personally?

          1. How do you know that the property is unguarded? Based on its actual and alleged cost, I am going to guess that it is guarded.
          2. You have no idea who took these photos, could have been the builder, the architect, Putin himself, his wife, kids etc etc.

This is real life not the movies and fantasy land, I doubt Putin is going to kill someone over taking photos of the house. He might be ticked at the most, but based on the home, it was meant to be ostentatious and for showing off so you would want people to see it and be jealous.

It is so frustrating to have know it all people in a forum like this. You wait in the weeds like a snake and when someone says states their thoughts, they get an earful of “facts” like this showing them their logic is wrong and how smart you are.

You can tell everyone else how dumb they are but can’t really show us how smart you are with some constructive independent thoughts. At the end of the day, you are not telling us how smart you are, just that we are dumber than you.

The result is people get afraid to say anything knowing they are going to get pounced on by someone who needs to bully and make themselves better by putting everyone else down.

Please, I ask you, let people state their opinions and have fun and make comments without you feeling the need to show people how smart you are and how dumb we are. It will make this a lot more fun for us all.

(This is where you make some sarcastic comment against me to put me down, show everyone else I am silly and they should not listen to my comments, and that you are so much better)

Not sure who Mister Blue Jumpsuit is, he appears in many of the pictures once you follow the link.

Can’t help but think he is probably buried out in the nearby forest by now if Putin actually owns this poorly located home.

I agree with Sam, this does not look like a house at all. It looks like a government building. That courtyard is depressing and the dining room looks like a cafeteria. Albeit upscale, I expect that we will learn that this is really a government building used to hold high level meetings and parties.

Two Words: Monstrous and Hideous…. Bigger is not always better. Just because you can make a dining room so big that it can fit 3 tables…. does not mean you should make a dining room that can fit 3 tables.. besides the spaces look all wrong.. you have this huuggee house with what looks to be mediochre size rooms with shitty lighting… some people sure do know how to waste their money…
