Oh dear. It’s hideous. I don’t know how old this house is but why are they putting French stuff in it? It’s in Russia. Why are people doing this? Trying to get their house look like an exquisite ‘French chateau’? It’s not gonna happen, ever. Wheter it’s here or in LA or NY or whatever.

Well I do know Russia adopted a lot of French stuff historically; it had great influence on both their art and architecture during for example the time of Catherine the Great. Prior to the Russian Revolution, French was the prime language spoken on the Russian court as well.

Yeah, the Russian’s certainly love their gilt. The only reason for this house is to show off how many rubles one has. Family, friends, relationships, and all that comes second to the money. Sadly, even with all their ‘apparent’ wealth, 95% of the homes from this country are downright hideous. They all remind me of that Beverly Hills monstrosity for $29 million…the one in the Reebok and Lady Gaga commercial/music video. Unnecessarily stuffy and terribly uninviting.

And don’t even get me started on the over-abundance of stone balustrades outside…

For a moment I thought it was the house used in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

The outside looks like it’s trying to resemble a traditional dacha, but set in a field of cobblestones and balustrades instead of a forest. I’m wondering if all those balustrades are to help crowd control in some way; maybe people have to queue up to get into this house…? This inside is a Rococo nightmare. It’s all about conspicuous consumption for a lot of new wealthy Russians, and this place definitely shows it. From an historical perspective, the opulence and over-the-top spending currently in Russia is truly ironic.

I imagine Andrey Melnichenko and those like him live in houses like this. When I see this house, I think of this commercial: http://youtu.be/22XqBLDDrU4

Ha! That’s the other commercial I had in mind. It’s a sad stereotype, but all too frequently it’s true.

And this was the commercial I was thinking of (It was adidas, not Reebok):

“From an historical perspective, the opulence and over-the-top spending currently in Russia is truly ironic.”

Is it? Not saying you are wrong, but I mean, during the “better” times in Russia, the upper-class living in extreme wealth truly built on the backs of the lower classes. The first guy who formed Russia, I forget how many millions of people he killed in the process just to build his cities and so forth.

This extreme level of wealth and opulence done off the backs of the peasants is part of what led to the Russian Revolution, which then gave Russia probably the worst period in its history and made the czars look like saints. Now the Soviet Union is over, so a lot of these newly-wealthy Russians came from extreme poverty, and as such want opulence now.

At least that’s how I see it.

Undoubtedly the ugliest home I have ever seen. On the positive side, I do like the white Lexus in the driveway.

This place looks like someone from the Saudi royal family with WAAAAAAAAAAAY much more money than taste or brains had Liberace come back to life and decorate it…….WHILE HE WAS ON CRACK. SHIDEOUS doesn’t even BEGIN to describe this ATROCITY.

And, I LOVE the end result of the Russian-to-English translation…………”Is good house for many of your doors and fancies to use roof with gold painting” !!!!!
