This newly built 20,000 square foot mansion is located on a cul-de-sac at 2202 Martin Lane in Northfield, IL. It boasts 7 bedrooms, 7 full and 4 half bathrooms, marble and hardwood floors, double bridal staircase, 2-story great room with fireplace, huge gourmet kitchen with custom built-ins, butler’s pantry, wood paneled study, finished lower level and much more. It is listed at $5,999,000. I don’t know about you, but I LOVE the kitchen and the mix of dark and light cabinetry. Plus, there is tons of prep and cabinet space!

Exterior is decent. Mansard roof can go. Inside is decent. No reason for the stairs to be facing each other like that. I do like the floor medallion. The fireplace in photo 7 is too big for the room. The floating fireplace and toothpick-thin columns in photo 8 are awkward.

Overall, does not look like 20,000 square feet. Price is high for an “ok” home.

I am not sure how much I like this mansion.
The exterior is not something special, but it’s not ugly or dull. The interior details are not stunning either. For example, look at the kitchen:It’s not appropriate for a luxury 20,000 square foot mansion;it’s very ugly and inconvenient. The other rooms are OK, but they don’t reach high architectural standards.

It’s a simple house.Don’t expect to see it in a future issue of Architectural Digest…

Its all in the lack of detail work where this place falls apart. For example, the front hall stairs aren’t bad, but they put the HVAC vents in a place (in the lower left hand corner of the brown wall panels) that no amount of paint or whatever can hide them. Just poor work.

Another example is the huge block of a fireplace in the family room. How does one design around that? Its just big, and ugly.

One last thing…the twin garage bays slapped onto the front of the garage makes this place look like just another huge urban sprawl mansion wanna be. U.G.L.Y.

I really dont like how they have crammed two floors into such a small space (Photo 3) the ceilings needs to be even higher for that mezzanine too look appropriate.

Personally I love the Kitchen, you could “cook for africa” on that center bench. I like that it looks domestic and not commercial

The exterior is boring. The interior too generic …although its fair to say almost half the interior shots are the entrance. I am sure its all very pleasing

I just think it’s too boring and dull all the way around.

Overall very nice, although at that price range and size, your garages should not be facing the road.
Also double staircases are a total waste and eat up too much room.
Other than that I like it.

Happy Thanksgiving Kenny and everyone else on here.

Great size for the money. I think it would look much better staged to sell though. I feel like the rooms look cold and unloved but with furniture and faux paintings, it would have a much more livable feel to it. The street looks quiet and calm too so you would have privacy due to it being a small culdesac.

    Happy Thanksgiving from Cincy!

I don’t get the hate on mansard roofs, does it look that bad? Yes, somehow it doesn’t really fit on this one, but in general?
But I don’t like this one; foyer looks like it pretends to be something it isn’t, and the back of the stairs en the walkway on first floor (picture 3) looks real bad. Kitchen has potential but paint that hideous mural over.
And I guess that last picture is the basement?
It looks like you can only have fun there when it’s not furnished: plenty of space to race through the place with a segway or go carts. But other then that it just looks like a “room” that’s way to big.
    I would pass this one.
