When you look at the exterior of this home, you think………normal suburban “McMansion”, right? Well, looks can be deceiving. Feast your eyes on the mind boggling interior. Holy China!! Can you say over-the-top and RED, RED, RED?! The “palace” is located at 5223 Winnetka Avenue in Woodland Hills, CA. It boasts 8,100 square feet of living space and is on the market for $2,590,000. What’s the funniest  part about this whole thing? The agent’s message of course!

HERE IS THE MESSAGE:

THE PALACE ON WINNETKA !!! Here is an amazing, one of a kind estate! This amazing property is set on a huge, private and secluded lot located in a prime woodland hills neighborhood. Designed by top professionals and transformed into a true royal italian/mediterranean palace. No expense been spared in the design of this venetian styled palace, the meticulous approach to fine details created the emotional and rich ambience this palace exudes. The remarkable floorplan boasts over 8,100 sqft of true luxury and offers 8 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms with too many upgrades to list. Upgraded and designed like no other home, only the best materials and artistic craftsmen were used in building this royal palace. Millions invested in decorating with custom draperies, windows treatments, valances, lighting fixtures and chandaliers. This is a home made for ROYALTY! Words and pictures alone cannot describe the grand feel of this property. This is the most unique and awe inspiring estate on the market!

It’s definitely one of a kind, that’s for sure!!!! The best part of the whole thing is that it said “MILLIONS” were invested in the home’s decor. Are you serious?!!! I would call that “throwing money down the drain”, not investing, but that’s just me. What do you guys think?

  • How many nickels and dimes did they have to melt down to get that Silver Suite?

When I was approaching 5 years old my Dad painted all my bedroom furniture in red & black. Is that why I hate this so much I had to devote 2 posts to it?

SOMEONE GET LADY GAGA ON THE PHONE! Tony Montana lives people! And he’s having an affair with the reincarnated Gianni Versace!

I honestly don’t know where to start. The gold and mirrored ceilings, the gold plated jaguar in the middle of the living room, those two models in photo 23 on realtor.com!

AND THEN, WE WALK INTO THE KITCHEN. AS PLAIN AND BORING AS FLOURESCENT LIGHTS! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I bet if you open that fridge though it will be filled with boxes and boxes of *powdered sugar*

When a broker writes things like “no expense spared” and “too many upgrades to list” you can be pretty sure it is not the finest house.

The grand staircase is too small, the ceilings are not tall enough, and the list can go on for a long time.

It is indeed a unique property, but to call it the most unique an awe inspiring estate on the market is far from being even close.

Wow. Overkill much? The inside of the home looks like the Johnny Chan’s by my old house. The only acceptable room in the house is the billiards room. Everything else looks like it was done by someone craving attention but not caring which kind of attention they got. Very disappointing. Great backyard though.

I still haven’t found anything to use to poke out my mind’s eye. Heinous is probably the best description for this place.

Looking through the listing photos on the realtor.com site, the third to the last pic brought everything into focus. The two girls sitting on the bed, the heavy satin curtains, the mirrors…clearly, this is a brothel!

Thank you! I have never seen something so unprofessional! Do the girls come with the house….Probably not, so why include them?

Burn the place down and start from scratch.

I think gaudy would be an upgrade from this god awful mess of a house.
Just tear it down, that is all that can be done for it.

😀 😀 😀 I guess I am in the minority here, because I LOVE the design of this home, or a lot of it. I agree it needs some better taste, and things like the grand staircase needs to be larger, the ceilings need to be higher, etc…however I love the coffered gold ceilings, I love the dark wood, the doors, the wall designs, the dining room table and chairs, the colors of the bedroom, etc…(though don’t think I’d want my bedroom to be like that).

The problem as I see it is that it looks a little too rapper-ish. Give me the dark wood, doors, certain wall designs, gold-plated coffered ceiling, etc…but add in some taste!

What I really wonder also is if, at that price, the materials are real? I’d think even an 8,100 square-foot home with all that gold and silver, would retail for more than $2.5 million, don’t you think? I mean I have seen some 8,000 square-foot homes that are rather cheap-looking inside.

I could also imagine a very tastefully-designed, luxurious opulent home, but then having say a “Man Room” or “Man Area” of the home designed like this, as opposed to the whole home.

So say Clive Christian for much of the home, or a classic English type of design like Albemarle, but then in the basement have a few rooms like this, with real gold and silver, the established “Man Section” of the home 😀

      Really?

I know rappers and pro athletes and none of them I know would ever do this crap to their homes.

Architecture and interior design adhere to certain principles (unless one is into that strictly modern stuff), but taste is still subjective. That’s even where the term “Baroque” came from, it was derogatory for that design style at the time.

IMO, this type of design is bold and daring. It is exactly what one would expect, most people either will love it or HATE it 😀 But I think it is perfect for just one room in a home as well, doesn’t need to be the whole damn home.

Some of the rapper homes I have seen on that show “Cribs” have looked like this. Not ALL of them of course, but some. Master P’s and 50 Cent’s homes for example.

        • Daniel

I too am a fan of bold, opulent, Baroque, etc. But this home is completely devoid of any of those. Show me a home in Architectural Digest that has the walls matching the pattern on the carpet exactly, faux-finish red walls with black and gold accents, all within a McMansion Mediterranean style home built in the sixties, and I’ll show you a liar.

The term “taste” does not apply here, and it never will. There is nothing tasteful. MAYBE if you incorporated one element into a home, such as the bold bed or the pool table, you would have something that resembles taste. Otherwise, all the other comparisons here are justified (Chinese Restaurant, drug den, etc.).

By the way, I *love* Clive Christian.

          • Kyle

Well that is why I said you would take elements of this and add in some tastefulness and class, and you wouldn’t do it in a McMansion. Also why I said that it might just be better for elements like this in one room or so.

I was actually thinking it had like an Asian look to it, although I wasn’t thinking Chinese restaurant. But I like that red-black-gold Asian-style theme a lot. Just needs to be done right and of course not everyone will like it.

I also like Egyptian themes too.

What do you mean about the walls matching the pattern on the carpet…? The only place I see that is in the bedroom with that rose-gold bed, if so, I agree there.

Two other things, when I say Albemarle, I meant the big estate of the rich woman shown a few posts back, and get a designed say like Juan Pablo Molyneux who knows how to do opulent designs. He could probably do a Man Room as well I’d bet.

this is like one of those upscale chinese restaurants on steroids…..so much red and black and gold it throws off your depth perception…….i feel like the designer wanted to come off as really classy, but missed the mark by about 30 years….you throw this thing in LA during the 1980’s and boy oh boy it’s a gem….but 2010? seriously, society has evolved, thank you very much….

EEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! (Runs screaming outta’ the house with head on fire and eyeballs exploding outta’ their sockets!!)

TALK ABOUT RETINAL DEGENERATION! KENNY! YOU SHOULD’VE WARNED US…..WHAT DID ANY OF US EVER DO TO YOU!? 🙂

When I AM AT A LOSS FOR WORDS, then EVERY ONE of you guys KNOW whomever “designed & decorated” (or more correctly, totally puked a fifteen-course Chinese dinner all over ) this place has SUNK TO A NEW LOW!!!!! 🙁

This nightmare-from-the-twelfth-level-of-HELL looks like MING THE MERCILESS wanted to get DEEP into the SHROUDS (or pants, in today’s slang) of ALL THREE of DRACULA’S WIVES, so he built this HEROIN-INDUCED, PIMPED-OUT-TO-THE-MAX, WHORE-HOUSE-ON-MEGA-STEROIDS, SARCOPHAGUS to lure ’em in. The Realtor for this place is either seriously independently rich, and tries to sell homes on the side for “fun” (although there’s NO fun in trying to sell real estate today, WHAT SO EVER) OR he’s literally & completely desperate to try & sell ANYthing, hence THIS LISTING! GOD HAVE MERCY!!!!!!!

However, a couple have said, correctly in my opinion, that a little of this type of Versace inspired, spastic/over-the-top/nuclear-powered interior design, when done in ALL the RIGHT, and MINUTE, REPEAT MINUTE ways, is beautiful….but NOT EIGHT THOUSAND SQUARE FEET OF IT.

I don’t get why you feature so many cheap tacky houses on this site, I mean I do love this site and I have seen a good amount of nice homes on this site but I notice that you put a lot of cheaply made crappy homes on this site and just every now and then you put a nice house built of real quality, I think people come here to see fantasy, to see the best of the best, the best homes available, I want to see homes like Fluer Dy lys, La Belle Vie, Le Belvedere, Champ D’or, The Manor, etc., also I just want to add that this home looks like a boring mcmansion in some crappy masterplanned community on the outside and then they put all that money into re-doing the interior, even if they didn’t make the interior ugly it is still a waste because that neighborhood doesnt justify that type of renovation especially if you are just gonna turn around and sell the home for $2.5 million, you dont spend millions on renovations unless you are selling the home for at least $10 million or more, anyway I challenge you Kenny to put some more quality homes on the site, homes built of limestone, homes with solid wood hand carved walls, homes with custom crown molding throughout, big grand huge beautifully made quality estates like Le Belvedere or Champ D’or, etc. instead of all these cheaply made mcmansion type homes, take a good look at Le Belvedere or La Belle Vie or Champ D’or, look good at the quality and materials used and attention to detail then look at the typical mcmansion you post on here, there’s a huge difference, please post more quality homes kenny, thanks

I thought you had a good point until you included Champ D’or. One thing though, Kenny posted just before this a BEAUTIFUL, well built, fairly priced home in Franklin Tn, so far it drew 5 comments. Next he posts this nightmare, and mine is the 40th post. Go figure.

      ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

You’ve gotta’ be reeeally new here Tony. I don’t know WHERE you’ve been, but ummmmm…….Kenny’s featured ALL those homes here already……..long ago. And ALL the homes Kenny features here were expensive to build period. Even if they’re hideous like this place. Like Dolly Parton says “It costs a lotta’ money to look THIS cheap!”

And I don’t mean to sound purposely insulting here, but have you ever heard of the words “punctuation” and “sentence structure”?

I sell antique furniture for a living and given the items in the photos are real wood and not plastic even thou its not antique it can be worth over 2mil easy

there are people who love this style, very few but in a market like this he has a better chance of selling because its unique even if its in a rare way.
