After seeing the post “Who Has The Biggest House?”, a reader of mine sent me some pics and info on his mega-mansion that is currently being built. It is located in Bloomfield Hills, MI and has taken 11 months to build so far. The home boasts a limestone and applied stucco exterior. It has 24,580 square feet of living space with 8 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a swimming pool, 2 story library, large gourmet kitchen, large foyer, solarium, playroom, home theater, “Moroccan room”, parlor, 5-car garage, gated motor court, and lots more.

Looks like a really nice house, my question is how do you verify that it actually belongs to the person who says it’s theirs? Sorry to be a skeptic but I’m just curious as to the validity.

lol nothing, just unless you’ve gone to the house with the person then you can never really tell. I know a few people with 15,000 square foot + houses that I can take pictures of and send to you, then call it my place, if you didn’t already know that I don’t have a mansion you would never know I was lying.

lol true, but I can tell all by what the person writes in their email and how they come across. If the person just sent me pictures of the home and said “this is my home”, then I would be suspicious.

Fair enough, I trust your judgment so if it’s good enough for you then it works for me. With that being said, damn that’s a big house!

I’ve noticed that a lot of houses look bigger from the back, not sure why that is.

Many times the homes are on small or odd shaped lots and when you build a large house on it the house may have to be odd shape as well. If you have ever looked at air views of Pelican Crest in Newport CA you can see many large homes on very small lots that are the same shape as the lot.

Chance why would someone lie about it? It’s not like it’s a popularity contest and the Homes of the Rich readers are all 10/10 models who will have sex with you if you send in a false pic lol. There’s just no reason for anyone to lie about it. But just in case someone is bending the truth, I trust the regular homes of the rich readers like yourself a lot more than the newbies who comment on here just once or twice. Still, I don’t think anyone’s that desperate to impress that they’d send in false pics. I mean, how sad would that be

I agree with you that doing that would be sad and ridiculous, but I’ve seen many mental midgets do more trivial things for less attention. Another thing is, unless I’ve missed the mentioning of it, we don’t know who’s house this is, knowing that would probably help in trusting them, at least for me, I’m always suspicious of people 😀

Hey Kenny and Guys………Happy to see that anyone has that kind of money to build an (incredibly) OVER twenty-four-thousand square foot home in this day & age in this country. HOWEVER, I’m a billion more times astounded (and honestly, verrrrry skeptical) that someone’s actually building a castle like that in my neck of the woods, here in metro-Detoilet, Michigan! Former high-end realtor here and I still have access to the MLS, and regularly keep my finger on the pulse of high-end real estate in Oakland County (where the Bloomfields are……Hills, Township, West Bloomfield, through Realtor only publications), and I read the Detroit Free Press everyday and have for years, and haven’t heard a peep about someone building such a gargantuan home at all. And believe me, in THIS DE-conomy, it’d be Seriously Difficult to keep building a palace this size a secret, ESPECIALLY here, in the state with the country’s WORST unemployment…..but of course, I could still be wrong. But, don’t misunderstand me, NOT a hater here, but still considerably leery of this.

Hey Barney, was just curious are you saying that you don’t think the house is in Bloomfield Hills or you don’t think it’s 24,000 square feet? I don’t know either way, not familiar with the area but I guess I just didn’t quite understand what you were saying.

Chance….I mean to say that I’m having quite a hard time believing that ANYone’s building a house that size in Michigan right now, ANYwhere in the state. At the risk of sounding like a know-it-all, I really keep tabs on luxury listings & residential-building-goings-on in Oakland county for four years now, and I haven’t read anything about a Huge home like this being built. Our ecnonomy (if you can call it that) is TRULY dismal with NO realistic plans or ideas to bring it back to even half of what it was 5 to 10 years ago. I can’t imagine anyone with enough money to build a house that size wanting to live here, even if Oakland County was once considered one of the wealthiest counties in the country. I’m obviously quite negative sounding, but believe me I don’t enjoy writing & saying it, however I really do include at least half an amount of reality in what I write. Get it? I’m gonna’ go have a look at the second-to-latest post about Bob Seger (Michigan born & bred, classic Rock Star) supposedly building an EVER BIGGER, 30,000 square foot home in Bloomfield Hills!?!?! Unless I’m waaaay outta’ touch here, I find that one next to impossible to believe, ’cause Bob Seger has always seemed like the LAST guy to want to live in a MEGA mansion like that, and he’s gotta’ be about 63 now. If he really is building this palace, then I think he’s NUTS TO THE MAX. More later 🙂

I understand that about the economy being bad, Michigan and the Detroit area in particular, but there are still plenty of people who can afford to build large mansions there. I doubt someone is making up dubious reports of the location of these two houses which means they are being built in Bloomfield Hills. I guess I’m just having trouble understanding what’s so hard to believe about these houses being built.

Barney, bob is building the house in orchard lake, on upper straights lake in the la playa sub off of old orchard trail, go visit the site, I’m sure you’ll be surprised… And plus, there are at least 10 houses under construction now in Bloomfield hills that are at least 10,000 square feet, now is the time to build, building materials and labor is dirt cheap now, an plus, nobody makes articles in the free press or anything for that matter about this stuff, because it is all normal and native to build mansions in Bloomfield hills/orchard lake/ west Bloomfield. I don’t think your really into the luxury market around Bloomfield hills if you don’t believe this is going on, drive through cranbrook, or anything in bloomield hills, then you will know there is some serious shit going on.

Seth and Chance….Seth first……….The time that you entered your post indicates that you’re in a different time zone….mind if I ask if you live here? You sound as if you do….just wondering. And, I’m not calling anyone a liar, it’s just that if you’ve been an agent like I have, and keep tabs as closely as I really do (even if you dont’ believe me) it’s still Very hard to imagine that that much mega-building is happening. While I agree with you that building materials & labor are super cheap now, STILL, the amount of even very wealthy people who are willing to spend THAT kinda’ cash on huge homes in Michigan, the state with the COUNTRY’S worst unemployment rates, in 2010 has never been lower in the past five years at least, easily, and that’s a fact….even in the best parts of normal & native Oakland county. Naturally, there are exceptions, but to convince me, I’d personally have to see all the building permits for all the construction projects you’ve mentioned. Sorry, that’s my realistic & negative, but learned position.

And Seth…..just copy & paste my sentiments above….but I am glad that both of you guys are clearly more optimistic than I am!

??? I’m not “to” excited at all, Seth. And I’m sure Kenny Does Not pull “shit out of his ass”. You’re the one that seems to be having such a hard time dealing with my sentiments. There’s no need on your part to try & convince me, honestly, which is not going to happen. I consider my beliefs & statements to be logical & correct, but you don’t……so you can, ignore me…..it’s that easy 🙂

I looked at that area on zillow, there are some large houses in the area that I would guess this house to be in, although very few near this large. I am guessing it is 24,000 sf total, including garages and guest house, pool house, or whatever outbuildings it might have, not 24,000 sf air conditioned living space for just the main house. Either way, it is a pretty home with some nice interior and exterior features.

I love the way everyone is getting so steamed-up about these mega-mansions! I live in a ONE bedroom apartment, Kenny, and no, I have NO delusions about EVER living in a mansion! It seems that the super-rich in this world march to a very different drummer! Ho hum we all end up in the same place at the end of the game…so it really is of no importance how large your home is. Is it? 😉
