Supermodel Gisele Bunchen and her husband Tom Brady, player for the New England Patriots, are building a mega-mansion in the exclusive Brentwood section of Los Angeles, CA (right next to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s house). The couple bought the 3.75 acre property for a reported $11 million. It is going to cost an estimated $20 million more to construct the home. Not like that will hurt their pockets. Gisele alone is worth an estimated $150 million and is the highest paid supermodel in the world! The 22,000 square foot house boasts 8 bedrooms, a covered bridge, six-car garage, and a lagoon-shaped swimming pool. It is being built by Boston-based Suffolk Construction, whose CEO John Fish is a good friend of Brady’s. While celebrities building mega-mansions is not something new, Gisele is taking some heat over it because of the home’s environmental friendliness. If you don’t know already, Gisele was recently designated the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). How ironic, right?! Do you think it’s a good idea for them to be building such a huge house?

  • This house is huge, and utterly amazing. I think I would get lost in 22,000 square feet though.

Heck, my parents have good friends with a 6 acre estate…~12,000sqft main house and ~2,000 guest house.

In this smaller 12,000sqft mansion you can still lose yourself. I just think it is cool that they’ve got: Ball Room; Billiard Room; Cellar; Conservatory; Dining Room; Hall; Kitchen; Library, Lounge and Study. All of the necessary rooms to act out a game of Clue. 🙂

If they plan to do a lot of entertaining then a 22,000sqft house is not out of line. Still a very large home, but a large home and being eco-friend are not mutually exclusive.

You know Kenny I am surprised with both of them being mega celebrities this mansion is not being built in Beverly Park with its much hyped ultra-security.

However, I’ve read even Beverly Park has suffered break-ins, but I’d think no other place in LA area matches Beverly Park for keeping out aggressive paparazzi.

Yeah, I’m surprised as well, but there probably weren’t any lots available to build on in there.

Well, I am not surprised at all:

Beverly Park is very expensive with regards to the property taxes. If we except the businessmen (Steve Udvar-Hazy, Haim Saban etc.), we’ll see that some entertainers (Kelsey Grammer) or athletes (Wayne Gretzky), who were at their peak when they bought these estates, found it difficult to maintain their huge mansions.

I’m sure it’ll be YET ANOTHER huuuuge, beautiful, probably over-the-top California mansion, but sighhhhhhhhhhh………….Guys, (and Kenny’s probably gonna’ want to boot me forever for this post, but, I always try & say what I want with perspective, honesty & class, so here goes)……it just never ceases to amaze me what people with too much money do with their wealth. I mean, I totally understand that everyone’s money is theirs to do with exactly what they want, but people like them (meaning your average model & athlete wife & husband, who are JUST A family of THREE right now, building a TWENTY-TWO-THOUSAND SQUARE FOOT HOUSE?!?!? I can guarantee you that, like at least 50% of people who have that kinda’ cash, who built McMansions like that in this day & age, WON’T be in it FIVE years from now ’cause, they’ll be divorced, about to get divorced, thinkin’ about it, get tired of the house for being “TOO SMALL” (!!!!!!!) or WHATever. Neither of them were born into this kind of money, so I most seriously doubt if they’ll EVER justify the size of this place with repeated, and FULL charity fundraiser/parties.

With that said, I know that alllllll these absurdly rich people (never mind however unbelievably & frivolously they became so) are physically EXACTLY the same as you & I, and can only be in ONE room, at a time, and can only wear SO many different desginer outfits at once, and can drive only ONE Bentley at a time, blah blah blah. What I’m trying to say is, maybe you’ll agree with me that there will FOREVER be infinitely more class, confidence, attractiveness and plain old “like-ability” in people who have that kind of money who DO NOT need a house (among all the other trappings of great wealth) that’s TEN TIMES bigger than they’ll EVER imagninably use, to feed their berserk EGO’S. In my book, reality equals class, which does NOT mean that you live in a three room house, but there’s GOT TO BE a realistic, but luxurious, middle ground SOMEWHERE! WHEW….thanks again for reading my rant!

You’re right, Onion, I know. Your statements are fact.

But maybe at the age of 48, I’m actually getting to the point where I can’t stand to see such (in my opinion) ridiculous wealth, spent so absurdly extravagantly, from, again in my opinion even more frivolously unbelievable careers. I’ve just become verrry sensitive to all the misery, abject poverty, suffering and financial & otherwise injustices in the entire world to be impressed by these monstrosities. I’m feeling guilty by (just) observation, but I know what you said is accurate. Obviously I need to distance myself from this kinda’ stuff for some relief & perspective.

She’s probably sponsoring hundreds of German “family” from their jungle compound in Brazil and really need the space. After all, short of the intentionally too few latrines in the concentration camps, the Germans are masters at planning “living” quarters. Thanks to Tom Brady, Gisele will eventually become an American citizen and legally offer that citizenship to many German Brazilians. Thank you, Tom Brady. Thank you.
