This mansion, which sits on over 11 acres of prime property, was built in 2003 and boasts 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. It is located on Plumtree Road in Barrington, IL. My favorite parts of the home is the double floating grand staircase and the spacious 2-story formal dining room. The home is listed for $7,500,000. What do you guys think? The interior definitely needs some updating (new carpets, appliances, ect.), but I think this is a lovely home.

I like the exterior but the interior not so much. The color schemes and fixture placements are some of the worst I’ve ever seen. Take the dining room for example: you’ve got yellow lighting clashing with a giant red/purple carpet and light blue painting. Half of the doorways are wood molding and half aren’t, all are in completely different styles. All of the fixtures are crammed along the bottom half of the wall, yet the upper half is completely bare. What’s the purpose of the off-centered balcony too? Do they really anticipate eating dinner and then having somebody converse with them from way up there at the same time? I guess it’s for when the bratty children wanna tell their parents that they’re not coming down for dinner:
    “Dinnertime Johnny!”
    “Screw you mom!!”
Bottom line, if fixtures were vomit then that is one nauscous dining room.

I’m also not a fan of the archways in the other rooms.

That is an extremely weird place for a balcony, what the hell?

I can’t believe you did not comment on the Oval Office carpet in that one room. lol

This house was never intended to really be done in brick, and it looks terrible in dark brick.

Several of my friends have the same home and most are done in stucco and the ones that are brick are done in a very light colored brick.

Looks like a Scholz design. He is a great architect with a varied style but awesome portfolio.

It is, it is a modified version of “The house of the 90’s”.

My home is the Ballantrae by Scholz.
