This unfinished 65,000 square foot super mansion (more interior space than an NFL football field!!!) has just hit the market. It is considered to be the largest single family residence in Canada. Until now, the largest home sold in Canada was a 48,000-sq.-ft. house in Oakville, Ont., which went for $45-million in 2006. The super mansion is listed at only $25,000,000, but that’s because there’s no flooring, no finished bathrooms and few wall coverings. It is located on Farr Drive in Haileybury, Ontario on the shores of Lake Temiskaming. The home, which sits on 40 acres of land, boasts an indoor boat house big enough for a 40-foot yacht, two elevators, an indoor pool, a giant hot tub, 30-foot fireplaces in the master bedroom and living room, and an exercise room the size of a small gym. The property was once the dream project of Peter Grant, a forest products titan from nearby Englehart. He planned to use the building as a residence and corporate office for his family-owned business, Grant Forest Products Inc. The home is way too industrial looking for my taste. Also, the home does not look like it’s 65,000 square feet from the exterior, so I’m interested in seeing how all of that space is distributed. Is this home your style? Would you buy it and finish it up?
