I was looking through the New Canaan and Greenwich areas on Bing Maps and I stumbled across this monster. I absolutely LOVE this home. It is located at 266 Michigan Road in New Canaan, CT. It is situated on a large parcel of land that includes a separate guest house and a private pond/lake. This home contains 20,000 square feet of living space with 6 bedrooms and 8.3 bathrooms. I did a little more research and I found out that it was for sale not too long ago! “As Is” the property was appraised at $9.5 million. Finished it was appraised at over $13 million. It was officially listed for $6,975,000, which to me is quite a deal!
The home was bought by Emil F. & Mie Jachmann. They then sold it to 266 Michigan Road LLC for $5,500,000 on April 21st, 2009.
HERE ARE THE PLANNED INTERIOR SPACES:
Dining Room: The Dining Room has twelve foot ceilings with large windows overlooking the pond. This room would accommodate a long table and two chandeliers. The Dining Room fireplace matches another fireplace in the opposite Drawing Room across the Main Hall, and two recessed breakfront alcoves frame the entrance from the Reception Room. Entry to the Dining Room from the Kitchen is through two doors – an “In” door from the Butler’s Pantry and Kitchen prep areas, and an “Out” door to the receiving and dishwashing areas of the kitchen.
Family Room: A sunken Family Room with 13 foot ceilings, large fireplace, and recessed wall for media – connects to the Kitchen and Entry Foyer. Four sets of French doors open to the patio with another set of French doors open to the adjacent conservatory with wet bar. A Vestibule connects the Family Room to the Spa.
Kitchen: The Kitchen has a separate Foyer and Entrance from the front courtyard. Six French Doors provide the kitchen with eastern light while the courtyard provides light from the west through another set of French Doors. Bathroom # 3: Bedroom #3 contains a private bath, huge walk-in closet, desk nook, and access to adjacent Study Room. Together with Bedroom #2, these rooms comprise a two bedroom suite with water views from every window.

I DID like it until I saw the floorplan. I little contrived; looks like rooms were forced together. The entire design seems to be 1/2 scale.

I drive by this one all the time. It’s a huge white elephant, poorly situated with the road. There used to be a nice contemporary on the location, until the owners knocked it down to build this thing. But they never finished it, and ended up putting it up for auction. The current owner, 266 Michigan Road LLC, bought it for “just” $5.5 million a year ago (March 2009). It’s still unfinished, looking more than ever like a relic from a time of crazy, ostentatious giant suburban castles that has now passed. It looks like a luxury hotel or a country club that ran out of money. I’m not sure you can tell from these pictures just how odd the scale of this building is – it’s like a plan was blown up 1.5 times on the copier. Could this ever really be a home?
Exquisite mansion!!!The exterior is superb from every aspect, while the interior seems pretty interesting.
The planned interior details in every room are extraordinary.
