This Richard Landry designed estate, dubbed Le Grand Reve, has officially hit the market. The 27,000 square foot mansion was privately being shopped around back in 2009 with an asking price of $32 million. Yesterday, it was listed on the MLS with an asking price of $27 million. This makes it the single highest-priced listing in the Chicago area. The home is owned by  Sherwin and Deborah Jarol. It is listed with Sudler Sotheby’s.

Here is the listing info:

Le Grand Rêve. Incomparable chateau crafted in the French formal aesthetic and situated in the most exclusive enclave. Renowned architect Richard Landry blends exquisite treasures and impeccable selections. From hand hewn details of European craftsmanship in grand spaces to the sweeping presentation of light throughout the estate’s grand entrance with two story rotunda and Tiffany dome, perfection has been created.

The picture of the agent and her dog is very nice. Good thing the dog is a little chunky, because if he has to wait for her to sell the house for 28,000,000 to eat his next meal, he will be verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry thin.

I was about to comment on that too. I would never hire a Realtor who puts their dog in their business card pic. Only Realtors can get away with that nonsense. The plastic smiles are irritating enough but when we’re trying to create the “down-to-earth”/”family-oriented” illusion then yerrrrrrrrr OUTTA here!
Looks like a great place though. I’d love to see more pics.

I hate it when people put their wives, husbands, dogs, cats, kids whatever on their business cards, or in their ads.
I automatically will not do business with them.
I consider them frauds that are trying to get over on me.
If you can’t stand on your own, then you are probably not worth my time.

Officially? The house was on the Sotheby’s website a long time, millions of people (could be!) have looked at the hose online.

I will have to see what makes this official now. It is a nice house. The floor plan is not bad at all.

IMO, I am not too much liking it. I like darker woods and more earthy colors, like Clive Christian (although his style is English—check his website http://www.clive.com and then click Furniture for his interior designs!) and also the type of French interior design used in the first-class rooms in the movie “Titanic,” which from what I have read was French Louis XV and also English designs.

This reminds me of the so-called “Taj mahal” in the Chicago suburbs which was listed for $ 25 million and which finally sold at an auction for less than $ 5 million. Or of the Lansdowne estate which was listed for a long time at $ 25 million and which eventually sold for less than half that much. Chicago realtors and politicians must have something in common considering how both exaggerate everything that they try to sell.
