This 21,000 square foot mansion is located at 8 Sgt Schuwartz Drive, Stony Point, NY.  It is owned by Stony Point resident Kevin Maher. He built the home back in 2005 and listed it in 2008 for $8,495,000. Kevin had an original budget of $5 million but wound up spending $7.5 million building it. He unofficially put the home on the market for $6,495,000 a couple months ago, but there was no listing to be found.  Now, the home is officially on the market for $6,395,000 and is listed with Sotheby’s Prominent Properties. The amazing mansion contains 10 bedrooms, 9 plus bathrooms, an 8 car garage, billiards room, gentleman’s parlor, wine cellar, 21 seat home theater, custom cherry library, office, spa, and a gym. This home also includes a 3,800 square foot carriage house attached to the main house, which can be accessed via underground tunnel. The property also include a pool with spa and a 2,899 square foot pool house. The home has an astounding $1.2 million worth of hand crafted wood-work.

I have seen the house before, and I like a few things about it. The floor plans are pretty good, too.

Stony Point seems like a good place to live.

Tony: You’re looking for a trophy wife? 🙂 That could work. Plus a house like that, a very good combination for sure!

Wow, only a little over $6 million for that!? I see a lot of $20+ million homes that don’t look that nice on the inside. Is the home made of brick, or just wood with veneer? Imagine what you could do with a budget of say $25 million if you want a home designed like that 😀

Not to be a mood breaker, BUT, there are 82 listings in Stony Point. 7 are between 1,000,000. and 1,325,000. Then this house at 6,395,000. This is the most expensive house, OVER 4.8 times more expensive than the next most expensive house on the market. That is not a wise investment. Also the school district the house is in is sub standard and the lowest rated in the area.

The house is very nice but George makes a good point. In most cases the house and land do not make much differance – as we all have heard a million times – in realestate only 3 things matter – LOCATION, LOCATION, and LOCATION. It will be hard to sell a 6 million dollar house in a 1 million dollar neighborhood.

I have seen it here in the Atlanta maket in the Sugarloaf County Club – there is this one awsome house (One of my all time favorites) that first listed in 2007 for 7.5 million dollars (down to 5.6 M now) and it still has not sold. Hard to get someone to pay 7.5 million when the house across the street is only around 850,000 dollars. Here is a link to the virtual tour of the Sugarload house with over 100 pictures:

Nice home, but IMO too close to other homes and way too open, no trees. I’d want a home nestled around trees, very cozy.

And this house is very generic, if you had the money you could snap your fingers and have it reproduced anywhere in the world. I miss read Stoney point for sands point. I think he over invested on the $1.2mil wood work in THIS house, a misjudgment that will not get a return.

Well like many of the homes of the rich followers, I am addicted to high-end realestate! A very close friend of mine is an agent in the “100 million dollar club” of Sotheby’s. So i am constantly viewing new listings and private showings in and around the tri-state area above 5 million. I took a look at the house back when it was 9.5million and had an in depth tour of the house(with the owner). The very same day i viewed a 25 million dollar home in Alpine that was 20000 + sqft and it couldnt hold a candle to the stony point home.

The more I read the commentts on this house the more I suspect the listing real estate agent is trying to really hype this house.

This is the most expensive home in Stony Point. I live in Stony Point and am looking to get out. Taxes are too high and there is nothing for kids to do. I grew up with the ice skating rink nearby and movie theatres in town. All of that is gone and replaced with Rite Aid, Walgreens and CVS all on the same corner! If you need something expect to drive 20 minutes to Nanuet. If you have the money, Stony Point should not be the place you’re looking at. If you have kids I suggest you send your kids to private school because the North Rockland Central School District is going downhill! I’ve seen this house (from the outside) and while it’s magnificent it does NOT belong in Stony Point!

Most towns in Rockland County don’t have an abundance of activities for kids – nor do most suburban towns for that matter, which is the beauty of having Manhattan in our backyard. Secondly, Nanuet is not twenty minutes away.

Ok, sorry M…Nanuet is about 15 min away from Stony Point but if I want to go to Modells and I have to sit through the traffic lights I’m looking at another 5 min. Still, there is nothing here. We can not use our parks in the summer due to the fact that the city people INVADE it and trash it on the weekends! I said when I grew up here we had the ice skating rink, movie theatres etc. There WERE things here. They are all gone! The schools are getting overcrowded. The housing market at this time is not a sellers market. This house does not belong here.

He’s the Town of Stony Point’s town engineer. I smell something fishy about this deal. The Town of Stony Point is very politically corrupt and when this home was being constructed, no one knew who was building it. Stony Point is a backwards place, with nothing for kids to do, no central shopping district or downtown, just a bunch of senior citizens complexes, McMansions, high ranches, and crappy strip malls and pharmacies. This house does not belong in Stony Point and I believe the builder is going to lose his shirt. The real estate market in Stoney Point is incredibly poor right now – and taxes are on their way up. I can only imagine that the taxes on a home like this would be in the $50,000+ range, and the owner will receive no services from the Town and be located within a poor school district. This is unfortunate. It is a beautiful house.

J.J are you sure this home is owned by the Town Engineer?
