What is laughable is Colts Neck's Architectural Review Board. They pretty much let anyone build any ugly thing they want. As ugly as this thing is, it's not the ugliest structure in town. Has anyone seen the Holiday Inn like monstrosity that passes for a residence on Five Points Road?

Actually the pictures of this property are pretty nice. Daniel you certainly can see the Home Depot quality that went into this property. How come you didn't mention the stupid light fixture in the "ballroom"??? Is that the ugliest thing ever! And the furniture looks lost in that room. I have to laugh at the pricetag on this place. There are so many beautiful homes in Colts Neck with pools and tennis courts not to mention they are much warmer inside. The owner is the mortgage guy who turned himself in to the Feds for mortgage fraud to the tune of 11 million. Looks like he is just as cold as his house. Good luck finding a buyer.

If that is true, then he should sue whoever overcharged him for "details and finishes".

The town won't approve it? No surprise there, as the architect is a moron who forgot to incorporate one into the design until it was too late.

You can clad s**t in gold and it's still s**t at the end of the day...

I have actually been in this home and I think it's funny how awful you think it is. The reason it doesn't have a pool is because the town wouldn't approve it. If you knew the owner you would know that too much money went into the details and finishes of his home.

I know, my fault. I have pretty much the same views as most of the people that view this blog. At least we both agree that this house is pretty disgusting to look at, and probably isn't worth talking about, lol.

Haha. Well, thank you for your response Dan. I was simply giving a different side to your opinion, devils advocate could be a way to describe it. I do happen to know a good deal about architecture and interior design. But notice that I never said that I liked the way that house looks. I think it is ugly beyond belief. I'm a fan of center entry homes. A house this big with the foyer all the way on one side just doesn't make much sense. Don't even get me started on the great room. Ostentatious is probably the best description. And I'll agree with everyone else, I don't know how you have a house like this without a pool. Maybe the pond is where these people like to swim. I would love to write more, but I'm sure I would upset a reader that actually likes this house...I agree with you that my #6 point is wrong, but only to an extent. I didn't word that anywhere near what I had hoped. I have been in places, and I'm sure you have to, where driving by the house, you have no hope of seeing it due to high walls, etc. So yes, everyone has the thought about the return on their investment, but that doesn't stop them from blocking it from view. Obviously privacy is paramount for people with that much money in most cases. I know as well as you that the bigger a house becomes, it gets harder to make them look grand and beautiful. There are plenty of nice ones, but for every nice one there is usually a matching ugly home, such as this one.

I have to agree with daniel. this house is very ugly. I know I am only 12, but i truly think i have more experience in architecture and design than the person who built this. It is ugly, bland, gaudy, and seems very unlivable

Great freaking house...

Thank you Tony for pointing that out.

Thank you AK for your splendid review of my opinion.

Yes, I'm sure someone other than the architect and interior designer had something to do with the house. Someone who has absolutely no taste or originality. This home mixes traditional, contemporary, French, and a slew of other mix-matched styles. The overall effect is less than flattering.

Don't be disingenuous AK, I did like some of the features of the home.

See AK, but my house isn't the one being offered for sale at nearly 8 million dollars. I could care less if someone disagrees with my taste, but I can tell you, ANY sane person who has a shred of knowledge about architecture or interior design will agree that this house is proportioned poorly, has Home Depot grade finishes, and is purposely made to look like something it is not. Sure, the owner must like the way it looks, considering they bought and/or built the place. But something tells me this mini-Madoff didn't exactly break a sweat designing the place.

Would I be saying anything about it if it was not on the market? No, your right, I would have not. I don't live in the northeast, so I wouldn't know about this house otherwise. I wouldn't know about it unless it was mentioned in this blog. But considering it is on the market, I have the absolute right to state my opinion.

AK, you are dead wrong about number 6. Anyone who INVESTS in a home of this size is ALWAYS thinking in the back of their head, "Hey, what is the potential price I can get for this in 5, 10 or 15 years?" Ya, it's a custom home and built to suit your needs, but it is also one of the biggest investments in a person's portfolio.

And I think my comment about the wine cellar was dead on, because I WOULD BET MY LIFE that the cellar hasn't seen a tenth of its capacity.

Best wishes, AK!

Shocking,, a criminal mortgage broker.
Who would have guessed?
The federal government will own this soon when they seize it.
Other than that I kind of like the house, it is not bad.

Daniel=the correct. This guy went farther out of his way to make that place look UGLY than most owners will go to make their mansions look lavish. those domes on the exterior are beyond goofy and gotta love that line in the description: "there’s no shortage of accommodations"....uh yeah, except for a swimming pool.

1) I'm sure the thought crossed your mind that someone other than the architect and interior designer had something to do with this house.
2) Chill out with criticizing every room. I think half of the things you said are pretty baseless. The comment about the wine cellar? Really?
3) Do you realize that 90% of home buyers wouldn't want to buy YOUR house with the current interior? Ever heard of staging? Granted, these people didn't do that, and it's definitely harder to do with a house like this.
4) Maybe they like the way this house looks.
5) You wouldn't be saying anything unless this house hits the market and you could see pictures of it.
6) That is why all of these peoples houses have high concrete walls, have lots of trees around them, and are on private drives. They want their house to look a certain way, and don't care about everyone else thinks, and they don't want to hear about everyone's issues with it.
7) You probably don't live in Colts Neck, but wherever you live, I'm sure there are some houses like this, or of similar size. Just thank them for their property taxes and get over it.
